Well, after about the 5th time breaking my axles i decided to put a hp d44 and 9in in the jeep. Was gonna do a straight swap and keep the lift and tires and everything. But decided to go ahead and go all out on it.

this is what it started as

and this is what it looked like before i started the full widths

Are bronco axles considered fullwidth or are those out of an F150 or something?

My friend's got an old junk bronco in his backyard... might have to go axle stealin.

While you have it up you going to do anything about all that rust? Other than that it looks sweet.

looks sick!!

Jonnyjpr

what rust??? thats clay. I dont think bronco axles are considered full widths.
I'm kinda copying tnt longarms. With the bend on the lower and connecting the upper to the peak of the bend. Gonna be pickin up the tires tommorrow, 38s.

I like it, it looks hella functional. I really like the long arm setup and framestiffiners. How r u gonna bolt in those chevy springs?

Jonnyjpr
April 2nd, 2007, 14:44
gonna be bolting them up at the stock location in front of the rear axle. Its gonna be hangin past the bumper a few inches, so i'll just put a shackle from the bumper to the spring. Wheelbase is gonna be brought back 10 inches and moved forward about 2 or 3.

looks good. The only thing I see is to add more mounting points to the crossmember. There's going to be some stress on those four bolts.

See you got started on urs, looks good man!! Keep us informed on the progress

I think those four bolts should hold the cross member fine. You really think that they're gonna break?

It's better to be safe that assume those four bolts will not break. Most guys choose to go with more mounting points for the control arms, even though you've added frame stiffeners. If you can, expand upon the mounting points for the cross member, and it'll be a much safer rig in the end.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the replies. Just let me know of anything else.

RyleyF

where do you get those frame stiffeners? My framerails are pretty dented from falling on jacks and sliding on rocks. Plus the old girl's unibody isn't as strong as it used to be, everything squeaks on the inside when I flex.

Angle iron

You got tired of breaking stock axle shafts...so you put a full-width axle in that uses essentially the same shafts and u-joints, to run even bigger tires?

Ouch, man. Good luck with that. Unless you plan on dropping a lot of coin on really nice shafts and u-joints I don't think you're gonna be happy there....looks like a solid build so far though.

Jonnyjpr
April 3rd, 2007, 12:41
Yea, i was thinking the same thing. I originally planned on staying with the 33's with the full widths, then bump up to 35's or 36's. But something about big tires gets me all giddy inside. So i just said the hell with it and wanted something bigger.

Nice progress so far. I'm kinda getting Deja Vu, though: I've got a '94 2-dr running a HP D44 front and Ford 8.8 rear, although I narrowed the front axle a little.

Here's mine:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f39/fzabolla/jeep/Evens%20Creek/070225/Evans022507013.jpg

FYI, I run Alloy shafts and Superior joints all around.

Yea, i'm planning on running stronger shafts and u-joints soon. I love the 2 door xjs, to bad it barely snows here.

What are you doing for steering? Is that a mock-up trackbar? With a trackbar (angle that steep) combined with the dual triangulated four link, you are definitively going to experience bump-steer.

Also, are those standard rubber bushings at all link ends?

rocklandxjer

looks great so far. but some criticism.

1) id make a new trac bar mount. or buy one if they make them -im sure they do [whoever they are]. i dont really like that angle. but thats just me.

2)maybe get a drop-pitman arm... lower that angle down a bit as well.

3) go OTK, and beef up the steering components, you're going to be putting a lot more stress on them now [and youll probably step up to bigger rubbers] and i dont know about some of that stock stuff...

other than that, looks awesome, keep us posted!

edit: never mind, i just took a second look and you've already stepped it up to bigger tires.

Jonnyjpr
April 21st, 2007, 19:07
Yea, i plan on up the steering.

the only rubber bushings is on the upper control arms, the end thats connected to the lower.

That is not a dual-triangulated 4-link. It's not even a 4-link at all.

It's more of a radius arm setup

Been sitting for awhile, got all 4 rubbers on today and moved it out of the "paint booth" and into the other side. still a long ways from being done

Whats the deal with the shackles hangin off the bumper like that? Is that how they are going to stay??

Yea, just gotta finish welding it up.

Redcbr007

I don't think the shackles like that is going to work.....if you have a steep approach angle and drag the ass, then its not going to be fun!

those are for the attachment points of the "rocksliders"
