fuel gauge problem

Hey new to the jeep world and I have a bunch of little problems with the 97 Xj 4.0L. Hope some one can help First the fuel gauge will jump around from empty to how ever much gas it has. It does not do it all the time checked arond some of the wires did not see anything. My next issue is the idle it usally sits around 900 or so and jumps a little up and down. Any help would be great thanks in advance...

Had the same exact problem with my '97. Sad to say it was the fuel pump.

Great, Ive got the same in my 97. Does this mean i should look into changing the fuel pump soon? As for the jumpy idle, I would check for a slight vaccuum leak
