for TIG process?
i cracked one catalog and all I see is 4043 and 5356?
I guess I figured they would list rod for 6061 since it is such a popular type......

Instead of looking through catalogs, why don't you call your local welding shop?
I don't remember what it was that I used, but it was aluminum :D
Make sure you get a stainless brush and only use it for cleaning your joints. All that oxidation that you can barely see REALLY screws up the weld if you don't clean it right before welding.

Sean,
That was going to be my second suggestion just after I told him to try some 7018-1 rod!:D

Sorry just a fault of mine. What I meant to add was use any rod you want cuz your welds won't break web-wheeling:D Of course I haven't seen your welds maybe they will:D

Hope you have a plasma cutter for that material. It eats saws-all blades like crazy. I used a piece of that for the table top on my welding table. works good, and slag and spatter doesn't stick to it.

have production cold saws and vertical/horizontal bands saws, just finished a job and put about 5000 cuts through a run of 6063 tubing, and the blade is perfect....I was curious when i read your post and went out to check......
the 6061 job is kindova one-off, so i should be fine. thanks!

Glad some one knew I wouldn't have had an answer till tomarow. I'm stilll playing with TIGing AL . Has any one tried to rod weld AL. Yearsago we did a piperacl out of 2x2 1/4 al and it just didnt seem to weld up right, no where near enough penitration and it was welded at 265 on the miller. We mainly do stailess so we haven't tied much exept for some custom dimond plate tool boxs.

Been a while since I did AL with stick, sounds to me like you didn't have the welder set for the correct polarity. I forget what it takes, but if you had it that hot it probably wasn't correct. Got me curious now, I better look it up. :D
