Well, I finally have an excuse to buy a new exhaust on my '01 cummins. The tailpipe rusted off right behind the muffler.
My question to you guys with experience on the subject is, what 4" turbo-back exhaust do you recommend? I'm looking for a system that is not extremely loud, and is as cheap as possible.
Thanks in advance.

Magnaflow's stainless turbo-back systems are pretty economical and don't sound like a damn schoolbus. ;)

my dad has one by banks and I really like the way it sounds, and we put it on in less than a hour

I just bought a 4inch turbo back from Summitracing for my 98 12valve CTD. It was $320 shipped. It's kind of loud when driving around town, but in the cab I can't hear it. It sounds awesome though! The best thing about it was the price. Got me past inspection as well

I don't care how loud it is outside, as long as I don't have to listen to it inside the cab on long trips. What brand was it? Was it stainless?

It was the "summit racing" brand. No it's aluminized. Like I said, it was cheap, easy to install and sounds great.

Same kit works with both long and short beds.

Don't bother. Diesel's don't care. The less backpressure after the turbo, the better. I dropped 50degrees preturbo by removing my cat, and another 50degrees after removing the stock muffler. Either run a 32-36" magnaflow straightthrough muffler, or straight piped (as a cummins should be).

Thanks for the input. I'm still undesided about which one to get. I looked at the Banks kit, and although it is nice, $1000 is way too much.
I'm trying to decide on whether to get a stainless or aluminized. Looks like aluminized kits are around $300-$350, and 409 stainless is around $450-$500 and have a 10 year warrenty. Either way it looks like I will spend about half of my tax return on a new exhaust. All of these kits get rid of the cat, but I think I'll keep it is storage untill my next emission test just incase I get nailed for removing it.
Thanks again.
