I posted this in the Arizona Chapter but I think it pertains to this whole organization. If not, this post will be sent to the Internet black hole!!

Hey y'all,:soapbox:

I was just scanning through some posts looking at post counts for FORUM USERS. There are folks out there with over 100 posts and some with over 1000 posts that are not true members of :NAXJA:. What's up with that.

It's time to give a little bit back folks!! This thing doesn't run for free. There are insurances, server fees, and on and on. Anyone ever heard the term "No Free Lunch?" Kind of applies here.hasta

Dig deep folks, $35.00 a year is not too much to ask for the amount of information etc that is available here. Less that a dime a day for crying out loud!!

Okay, rant over for right now, But I'LL BE BACK!!:flamemad:

How true...many folks don't realize that NAXJA is a club for XJ/MJ owners and enthusiasts FIRST.

As a club, we offer this volunteer-run website and host events as a resource to the greater off-road community, but without a steady stream of new and renewing (paying) Members, it can't exist.

Joining NAXJA is easier than ever... just scan over the bylaws, and open up your User Control Panel. Select "Paid Subscriptions" and follow the easy steps.

As an extra bonus, if one joins or renews during the month of March (during our annual Membership Drive) it enters you to win some great prizes.

Thanks

Thanks Scrappy and Woody!!

Folks, I'm new to the BOD side of this organization. For those that don't know, I'm the newest prez of the newest chapter of the forum. The folks that hold this forum together are all volunteers.

Yea, I still work my 45-60 hour weeks, try to keep my rig on the road/trails, continuing to remodel my house and trying to make this a better forum for Arizona and the national forum.

If you don't want to become a member, then contact your National BOD and find out how you can donate a few bucks to support this arena and the wealth of knowledge it contains!!

Like I said before, there is no free lunch, I'd be really pissed if this went away due to lack of support. The BOD can't support it financially themselves!! It takes money to run this type of operation!!

Anyone on the BOD had any discussions about making UFWDA, the vendor list, and the roster optional? That's what turned me off from paying back when I signed up, and the same policies are still around. Not to come off as an asocial paranoid left-wing non-wheeler, but I kinda am. Maybe I'm the only one and it doesn't matter, but it would be interesting to get feedback from anyone else in the same boat.

Can you elaborate before I say anything? I just want to make sure I am clear with why you dont want to be a supporter of UFWDA.

i agree, there needs to be more information supplied before your fears/anxiety can be addressed.

I've looked at the lists you've listed and can't find any information compromising to anyone.

If you can expound on your situation, I'm sure there are folks here that can help you with resolving it!!

Because I hate newsletters :)

It's more the principal of the thing, along with the fact that I really and truly do not wheel and am not even sure that I approve of wheeling on public land. I don't really have a strong opinion on the matter, but that doesn't mean that someone else might not.

Basically I feel like I am being used politically, by an element that does not share my politics. If the $10 were to go to, for example, the sierra club or the eff, (either of which would be topical to the forum) I would have paid in a second .. of course, given the makeup of this forum, I imagine many more would have expressed the reservation I just expressed, simply from another direction.

Also, I'm not keen on the roster. There's a fine balance between paranoia and common sense. Naturally if I'm contacting a vendor or another member I will share my personal information as necessary, but I'm not sure that having the information available in a semi-public internet directory is a wise idea, particularly since I personally am not involved in the "real life" activities of the forum clubs or members.

Same thing goes with the vendors. I would trust that NAXJA vets the sponsors enough that the vendor would not send me spam/ham or sell it to someone else, but 'mistakes' happen all the time with personal data.

Granted the worst that could happen is I get some magazine I don't want in the mail, but the point is, my information is mine, and the only control I have over it is by not handing it out. Once it's out there, it's not mine to control, I just have to cross my fingers and hope that everyone else who comes across it is trustworthy. When the information transfer is necessary (such as a sales transaction) then obviously crossing your fingers is the only option. However, WRT NAXJA membership, the information is obviously not necessary, since I have already made 450 posts here without that transaction...

Does anyone know where we are at? How many new members/renewals have we gotten so far? I signed up for 2 years last March, but I would be willing to renew for another year to help reach the goal.

Your concerns are VERY valid. Let me let you in on a little secret. No one here will tell you that you MUST join. If you are not sure whether you agree or not, dont do it until you are sure! No one here will give you to much lip about it:D

I can say that BOD might be making a type of membership/support that you most deffinatly would not have a difference of opinion with.

We havnt gotten a count as of yet. Hopefully we will have some numbers this week! Ghost is working his caboose off trying to get caught up with the membership stuff and may or may not have gotten caught up far enough to see how many are in and what not. Hopefully he chims in soon.

Ok, thanks. Like I said, I'd be willing to re-up if we are close, but would rather wait until next year so I'm not always a year ahead.

I just renew every year for a 2 year... figure the money is needed anyways! Plus, eventually I will have enough for 500 other people! :jester:

I just renew every year for a 2 year...

Same here.
Doing so does leave me with one question, though. What happens when I kick the bucket some years down the road? Will my next of kin get a new NAXJA sticker every now and then for my headstone? How many prepaid years would it take to just have one etched into the thing? Maybe something in the neighborhood 20, 30.........50 unused years?

Hey I have a few questions myself.

What are the benifits I receive by becomming a member? I could just hang out and post for a very long time without spending a dime. What does my money get me? Please don't take this wrong. I'm all for keeping this alive. My xj has come a long way because of this place. I just want to be very clear before I pay.

For me, it wasn't a matter of what I "got",but the fact that this board, hands down, is the best Jeep forum on the net. I read it all the time and felt that $35 a year has saved me thousands in repair bills. If you don't believe me, check out www.nagca.com (Grand Cherokee board). It sucks:exclamati

"spending a dime" you say? Vendors offer discounts to NAXJA members. Just ask them. I became a member right before I bought my lift and the member discount more than paid for a two year membership. All the savings from the stuff I've bought since then have gone right back into my pocket. This is a no brainer. You can support the site and get cash back at the same time.

Scrappy and others are making good points but in the end who wouldn't want to put another $100 back in their pocket and help a noble cause at the same time.
