Jeezus - just did our taxes. Filed our usual, married w/ no deductions, Uncle Sam, 401K and benefits took damn near 48% of our friggin income already....... and we still owe over $2400!!!!! My injury required some disability time used from work so that didn't help. Thought we'd been holding out enough..... wrong.
This is the first time we've owed taxes.... sucks.
On top of that, the truck and the GTO are due for registration next month for another friggin $850......
Apparently I earned way too much, bumped up in tax bracket. Working overtime sure can end up screwing ya in the end huh? Thing is, I was injured for half of '06 and didn't earn diddly for O.T. compared to '05..... :dunno:

$401K? + Benefits?! I don't make a month what you owe in taxes so I wouldn't be complaining if I was you.

I just got hit for 2500 bucks this year. What I don't get is that I'm hammered anyway since I'm single and rent. The "401K" was the only thing saving my ass. What did you do to get the "big hose", dude?

pretty sure I wouldn't be... If I was making $400,000/year I'd be smart enough to put something aside for those exact reasons (taxes, car, etc.) If you guys are going to complain about making TOO much money, how about you complain about being too stupid to hoard some of it away for rainy days as well :nono:

How in the hell?? 48%? Jesus.
p.s. you can write off the property tax on the GTO if there's any on the renewal :)
I get a huge tax writeoff for my renatal, depreciation, insurance, HOA fees etc etc it's a nice 15k deduction every year and keeps me out of trouble.

C'mon man! There ain't too many guys runnin' XJ's that make that kind of income.... and the ones that do tend to move to Texas, become Prozac dependant, and lose all sense of humor after building a grotto and brick barn for their diesel pusher motor home.....
Thanks for the laugh! My side genuinely hurts now!

LOL - well many of my co-workers have nicknamed me "The well financed redneck"..... and it don't take much for a redneck to be well financed.... but I do alright - just frustrated that my gross income and my net income are 48% apart from each other.....
Regardless, I appreciate you being a good sport about it. Afterall, you're lurking in a Chapter forum pretty far from your home turf! :D

and that's why I'm not worried about getting my butt kicked :P
I just saw the title involving taxes and since it's our season for that up here as well thought I'd peak in. Then I saw what I thought was some rich whino complaining about how he makes 400k, gets half taken away in taxes and then has troubles affording to re-register his vehicles at $1000 lol.
BTW, is my "home chapter" The northwest area? Is there no chapter specifically for Canadians?

No Canadian chapter at this time, but there's plenty of you guys..... you all ought to get organized!
Info about starting a chapter is in the By-Laws found here:

I gave my 10% to "Jeezus" and "gawd"
that, plus my 3 kids got me nearly $6000 back this year.
I've changed my deductions so that I don't give out so much of a free loan to the govt again.

I've got to figure out where those illegals get their SS#s so I can get one for my cat.

....But I spent it on new carpeting for the house.
Baby spit up, pets, mud, and grease(from, uh...me) killed the carpet.
So I guess it's a wash...

Become a photographer.
You can write off damn near everything.
My XJ for instance. Oil, gas, Bumper, winch, tires, roofrack, new dash, stereo, etc. Just keep damn accurate track of your mileage.
My jeep is one hell of a write off.
Oh, yeah. Vacation was too. Photo safari. Just sell a few pics and write something.
Every tax place tells me the same thing: keep all receipts and write it off.

Did you do the taxes yourself?? Something doesn't seem right at all, Troy...
Why are you paying taxes on your 401K? You shouldn't have to pay anything until you start withdrawing from it. Also, are you paying income tax before or after your 401K deduction?
Married, no kids, homeowner, i made $30K more last year than the year before with the dayjob, Laurel added about $10k PLUS both of our investments did really well... We're definitely in a high tax bracket and we're getting back $900 after paying our CPA.
If you want the name and number of the firm we use, let me know. She's a pain in the ass because she's always wanting random stuff from us but in the end, it's ALWAYS worth the trouble of scrounging through the paperwork. She's located up in Northglenn.

I sleep with my CPA..... :D
My wife is a CPA and works for an accounting/audit firm - our return is correct. And no, I wasn't saying we pay taxes on the 401K, but after my contribution comes out, then the other benefit costs, then taxes.... it's just frustrating the amount it comes to. This year was a bit different because of having to take a little disability time which isn't taxed by my employer, we apparently didn't hold out enough on our own, and a couple other little changes in income caused this. Oh well huh? All I can do is bitch and pay.

That stinkin disability...I didn't realize that was taxable! Oh well, tax on 2/3 of not much should be managable. I guess I better find those check stubs also.
After my child support started, taxes, uniform fees, union dues, health ins: Fourty-some percent of my gross actually fell in my pocket. So yeah Troy, it was kind of ironic to me.
