View Full Version : Got my new Jeep!

Finally saw a new listing in the Autotrader website. Luckily, I had the day off today. I was so confident that I would buy this Jeep, I took the Amtrak up to L.A., then the subway to Sequoia's office. Then we went to look at the Jeep a few minutes away.

It's a white 98 SE 2-door 4WD with 119K miles. It was a former Edison vehicle. It was pretty clean with only minor things wrong, like a missing AC vent. And the trackbar is a little loose. Clean engine and tranny with none of the inherent XJ leaks (yet).

Thanks to Sequoia's smooth talking and considerable acting skills, I was able to get the Jeep for $2800.

Plus, I'll be able to sell the HP D30, 29-spline 8.25, and 231 t-case to offset the cost even more.

It drove very smoothly on the way home. But I did find out that the driver's seat is broken and squeaks quite a bit. Can you say Mastercraft? :)

Anyway, I'm excited to have a new Jeep. Thanks to everyone who sent me potential leads. And special thanks to Sequoia.

I think that you should take it on a farewell wheeling trip though: get a trailer, tow it up to JV or someplace and wheel the hell out of it for a day!

I'm gonna do some small stuff this weekend, like the stereo, XM, CB, FIPK, Red Top, and such.

Does anybody have any stock LCAs with good bushings laying around? Mine are shot, and don't want to put my REs on yet.

Also, does anyone know if a 96 rear soundbar will fit on the 98?

Congrats on the new project! I have a set of stock LCA's off of a '98, I'll check the bushing and get back to you. I can bring them up to Scott's next weekend.

It does exist! I saw it today and it looks so clean! It's in such a good condition that Johnny is actually concerned about few paint chips and faded flares :D :D I told him we need to go run Lower Doran ASAP so that he stops worrying about the inconsequential stuff and just start wheeling it ;)

Remi corrected my misdiagnosis of shot LCA bushings (it's actually what the seller told me). Instead, I have shot motor mounts. So I'll be correcting that shortly. Here's a pic.

I almost had imperial stout coming out of my nose! Just for that, next round is on them :D

Something is weird with that hinge. From the looks of it that door has been removed as the pin that goes through that piece that limits how far it opens is not stock. Also when you lift up the door it looks like the problem is within the pin that's in the hinge on which it swivels and that's where the slop is.

It looks to me that the hinge on the door side is wallowed out alloing the pin to move... MJR would know for sure...he's the top jeep tech...

Why? FedEx is close to Mike's work. I can drop by there after work. I'll just have to set a time with Mike, so he knows I'm coming over. Or I'll stop by on Thursday, which is my day off.

The old heep is up at Grant's shop already, thanks to 4XSanta and his trailer.
I'll be at the shop tomorrow getting a head start on taking some of the old parts off. So Saturday is still a go.

The address (again) is 5584 E. La Palma in Anaheim Hills. Exit the 91 freeway at Imperial Highway. Go north to La Palma. Turn left. Another left at the 2nd light. It's in the business complex.

Does anyone have a pitman arm puller that they can bring?

And Rick, you better bring a jacket. It's cooler here than what you're used to.
