Yeah since he won't answer any questions...here is what I see.

You will notice in both pictures you can not see anyway for the hood to be tied down.

Also since he only has an inch to spare between the top of the throttle body and the hood there is no hole in the hood for an air cleaner.

Saggy rear end...shocks have not been charged.

Wires still hanging under the dash everywhere.

No body panels.

No roof.

no paint.

Not finished.

Lookin' good Bryon......glad it's a runner now. I'm bettin' the paint doesn't get done, we're just too close.

I was hoping to get my skins on, but I don't know if I'll make it. I did get the roof on it, and yesterday I painted the hood and front. I still have to get new high steer arms and make steering links, so right now it's not drivable. I have a long list of things to do, but much of it is optional, so whatever gets done is OK......just the steering needs to get done. I don't know yet when I'll take the time to strip it all down and paint it.

If you don't need a winch on those trails, then they aren't BOTW quality.

This is BOTW style wheeling...........we don't use high lift jacks or straps. If you get stuck or hung up, you pull out the winch, get yourself off, and keep on going.

This isn't an invitation to run the trails...just watch.

Far as I have ever heard...if you aren't personally invited to run with the

Thats ok with me. Without a cage, front 44 and a few other things I would feel uncomfortable taking my rig on most of the crap they do anyway.

Invitation is based on equipment. It would be nice to have someone from Utah there with an XJ. Here's our standard equipment list:

Minimum equipment requirements are the usual. Dual lockers (no LSD), 33" tires minimum and 35's+ are preferred, no D35's, 8.25's are OK up to 35's with alloy axle shafts, no stock diff gears, sticks must have low t-case gears, skid plates and proper body protection, winch mandatory, no stock steering linkage, no 260x axle joints, axle joints must be snap ringed, aftermarket axle u-joints are highly recommended and are required with 35" plus tires, alloy front shafts are mandatory, axle size should be appropriate for tire size. Any stock suspension mounts should have additional welds or reinforcement. Everyone should have a reasonable amount of spare parts and tools.

Ryan, what do you have?

The McDonalds in Delta is the worst I've ever been to. There is one place on the east side of town, north side of the road..Log cabin type place. Good eats. There is also a pizza place just off main street. It's good as well.

Yeah, the log cabin place is what I was thinking of. The diner is on the other end of town just east of the overpass. I like the diner better, very 'hayseed' :D

I couldn't agree more Ryan! I'm not a buggy fan at all though. I completely respect their ability and craftsmanship, and they would be a heck of a lot of fun. They just seem, I dunno... unsportsmanlike?

The reason I'm liking Jeff's stuff is that I'm nuts about desert racing. I'm very interested to see what a well thought out XJ can do on fast bumpy stuff. Partly becuase I own 3 XJ's, but mostly because I may use some of his build ideas for myself.

Jeff - I haven't seen any updates to your XJ build in the mod tech forum for a while. Is it at a standstill or are you just not sharing?

Jared:patriot:

DrMoab

They just seem, I dunno... unsportsmanlike?

I am of two minds on this.

First thing is there are a lot of trails out there that you would never ever even think of tackling in an XJ, TJ or any other rig. Sort of like what was said in the other thread...you build better vehicles and you look for harder trails.

I don't think anyone builds a buggy with the intention of just sticking to the same old trails we are all used to running.

The second part is reliability. I know one of Bryon's biggest reasons to build that buggy was to not have to worry about fixing things anymore. With front and rear d60s running alloy shafts and a purpose built rig made specifically to handle whatever abuse you throw at it, the chances of breaking become pretty small.

That being said I have no interest in owning a buggy. Maybe if I had a lot more disposable income I might have one just to run places like Johnson Valley and other trails built specifically for vehicles like that. In fact right now I am on the track of downsizing and going back to a rig I can drive daily and wheel the piss out of on the weekends.

I would never say they are unsportsmanlike though.

This trip beat us up. Everyone on the trip broke something, except for the comp buggies that lead us every day. These were definitely good trails, and it was a tough schedule. It was nice to be able to run hard and scenic trails in a totally new location, stuff that is not well known. Many, many thanks to Craig Stumph for setting up the schedule and leading us all week. He took a week off work to help us do this trip, and it is greatly appreciated.

For a group of full bodied rigs that want a fun trail with some decent challenge and good scenery, Cat Canyon is a real winner. It would be worth a weekend trip. It's right off Hwy 50 about 60 miles west of Delta, in the first mountain pass west of Delta. You guys would also like Lower Chainsaw, fun and scenic, and not too hard. Upper Chainsaw is a different story, tough and tight. Jes got his roof a couple times on trees, and Erik broke just about everything in his Currie HP rear end.

Saturday's trail, the first day, was Wrecking Yard, and it was one of the hardest trails we've ever run. Out of 12 rigs, 3 were left on the trail with broken steering components (all front D60's). This trail is just off the freeway between Cedar City and St George.

It was a great week......and I'm still tired. :)
