What is the easiest way to bleed a new power steering pump ? I got a new pump and hoses and I was wondering if there were any tricks to make it easier to do.

Thanks.

Yes, in more detail.

Fill the reservoir, put the top on.

Start the engine "at a high idle" for a few minutes, shut off the engine, check the level, add if necessary, put the top on. Start the engine and turn wheels from side to side but not all the way to full lock. Shut off the engine, check the level, put the top back on, do this process about 3 times, be sure the level is at HOT. Put the top on, road check, check the level, you're done.

Don't run the engine with the top off or you'll have fluid everywhere.

That's not the factory recommended procedure (paraphrased here, with quotes as necessary).

1. Fill it and let it settle for a few minutes

2. Start the engine and let it run for a few seconds, then turn it off.

3. Top up if necessary, and repeat as necessary until fluid level stays constant.

4. Raise wheels off the ground.

5. "Slowly turn steering wheel right and left, lightly contacting the wheel stops at least 20 times."

6 and up: Check fluid level and add if necessary, then lower the vehicle and turn the wheels from lock to lock slowly again, stop and add more fluid if necessary, and if the fluid is foamy, let it sit for a few minutes without driving, and then repeat the procedure. Bold print notice follows: Don't run a vehicle with foamy fluid for an extended period or it may damage the pump.

It often takes more than a few minutes for all the foam and bubbles to work there way out of the fluid. I think a half hour minimum for everything to settle, would be more realistic.
Many rebuilders recommend replacing the fluid shortly after the first fill and purge. Throw away the first load and fill it again. There is sometimes one of those little white pieces of papaer in the bottom of the box that says, warranty void if the system isn't flushed or something to that affect.
