Time to refocus on our group.
Since it is so hard to get everyone to meetings all the time and even harder to get people to runs every month I thought I would start this thread to let you...the Local Intermountain Chapter guy share his thoughts out on what would make this chapter better.
I would like input from everyone on a few things. Not in any particular order but here are a few things I am interested in knowing.
How should we work meetings? Once monthly? Quarterly? Weekend days or weeknights? Should it be the same day of the month...IE the third Tuesday of the month for example?
Trail Rides...Once a month? More? Less? Harder trails or easier?
Meet and greets...do them more often? Locations?
Please...if you have any other ideas, complaints or requests post them up here. I want to get this chapter back on track and get some interest up.

Were off track? I wasn't aware of any problems. The winter months are always tough. Spring is right around the corner though!

We aren't off-track and there are no problems. Sorry to make it seem that way.
I just want it to be better then it has in the past.

If someone could just get rid of the snow so us "non-snow" off-roaders could get out. That would be really nice!! :)

You should try snow wheeling sometime. Its really kind of fun.

Wellllllll, since I have no tow hooks no one in the chapter would be willing to tow me. So I have to stick to dry roads that I can get out of myself.

Tow hooks are a naxja requirement on runs you know. ;)
order a set and take them to Jerry's shop...they are easy to put on.

Same day of the month. Weekends are better for me, but weeknights might be ok, depending on the night. Maybe they could be monthly, but vary in location IE Month 1 north, month 2 central, month 3 south, then start over.
Trail Rides...Once a month? More? Less? Harder trails or easier?
Once a month, and vary the difficulty.
Meet and greets...do them more often? Locations?
Meet people at the meetings and trail rides, but maybe quarterly do a barbecue instead of a trail run.
Those are my thoughts, nothing more, nothing less. I reserve the right to change them at any time.

Time to refocus on our group.
How should we work meetings? Once monthly? Quarterly? Weekend days or weeknights? Should it be the same day of the month...IE the third Tuesday of the month for example?.
This question comes up about once a year doesn't it? Monthly is tough to do for meetings considering how spread out we are, but at least Quarterly seems appropriate. Can always hold meetings whenever a group is together with some of the leadership. In the past we've had them during before and after trails runs, shop days, and meet and greets as well as just plain old meetings.
Trail Rides...Once a month? More? Less? Harder trails or easier?.
Once a month seems appropriate. It's what we have been trying to do (and I would add fairly succesfully) since before the chapter was official. For larger more popular runs or planned runs to areas with multiple trails then at least have a hard and an easier option if possible (depends on participation) I like that Price, Delta, and Vernal are on the Calander, options abound in each location.
Meet and greets...do them more often? Locations?.
Sure, monthly, regularly, drive in's, diners, megaplexes, car shows etc etc etc
these I don't see a problem with doing them regularly and in multiple locations, make an announcment and whoever shows up shows up. I think there should be a local get to gether aspect to these so here is my suggestion, first week of month = Northern area, Second week of month do a Salt lake Valley location, third week of month = Happy valley location (or simular plan such as all on the same week but different day or even same day as another location, whenever the locals can/want to meet up). Pick a date and stick with it, let the locals decide where and when then let the locals get the word out. these are informal fun social hang out sessions to meet new and old members and have a visible presance in the community, it isn't an official meeting so if you miss it no worries, there will be another one very soon. I say local but they would be open to whoever wants to make the drive to wichever one whoever wants to make it to:looney: .
As one of the more active members in the Salt Lake valley I would suggest the second full 7 day week of each month for the Salt Lakers therefore,
March 14th at Hires Big H Midvale location for the next Salt Lake Valley Meet and greet - http://www.hiresbigh.com/menu.html
835 E. Fort Union Blvd (7200 S, next to Sonic)
Midvale, Ut

Anyway I just keep seeing lifted XJ's all over my neighborhood let alone this corner of the valley and think there needs to be a way to make the club more visible to them, holding regular local informal meet and greets comes to mind and thats my .02
Please...if you have any other ideas, complaints or requests post them up here. I want to get this chapter back on track and get some interest up.
just to throw out more ideas...
We are going to need some wrench parties party1: on the raffle rig some day I imagine :dunno: .
 Not something I'm in to but for some of you and some of the other local XJ'ers how about a best of Utah invitational for the serious built rigs in the group ala BOTW but on a local scale?
That about completes my brainstorming, keep up the good work, the shop days, the BBQ's, the trail runs, and the big events we have put on have all been great memories!

I know it's really hard for most people to make it to everything. We all juggle a lot of things such as work, church, family, hobbies, etc. If I don't make a Meeting or Trail ride, it usually has nothing to do with the scheduled time but everything to do with the amount of other things I need or want to do. Right now, Weekday Days are best for me...I know that's not really feasable.
To sum-up, I think we've/you've been doing a great job. I'm trying to make time for Chapter events.
I don't think this post made any difference other than to increase my post count.

I agree with xjblue, it needs some local input. Now if I can only bet my work schedule more concrete, I could make more of these meetings and trail rides!

This is a great idea Jared.
Consider it official.
And it doesn't have to be for the SLC locals. I have no problem driving to SLC or even Utard co for that matter.

As far as trail rides, once a month and vary the difficulty each month.
Being a social recluse, I'm not one for meet and greets so I have no input in that area.
I have to add that I'm really happy with the IC in general as well as its leadership. There is a fantastic sense of camaraderie in the group and a refreshing absense of negative critisism. Maybe its the non-diet Mt. Dew talking, but I love you guys!

Jared has some good ideas, spreading the meetings around is a good one. We've got a good mix of runs coming up and I'm glad to say that my Jeep will be trailready in the next 45 days!!!
We need to address the upcoming shop days for March, April and May and take full advantage of Jerry's shop resource. We'll lose this option for the summer when school is out and we need to have the jeep "displayable" at FF 07 in October. If you don't need to wrench on your junk, let's haul up RJ (that's raffle jeep for the slow folk) and get some stuff fixed on it.
Oh, I want to go up to Cub River again (July run?) this run was a blast for stock Jeeps and modified as well, and the tubing, camping and good eats (water fights too) are great memories.

I don't know if Cub River is going to fit into the plans this year. Unless someone wants to plan it on an off weekend.
Right now we have...
Vernal on Memorial Day
Nothing set in stone for June (maybe then but last year there was too much snow)
BBQ in July and no trail rides due to too many Holidays.
Uintah Run in August.

Howsabout a Cub River run on June 27th-28th? Snow pack hasn't been that heavy this year so we shouldn't have issues with closed passes. I'd rather plan it and have to bump for snow, than have everyone miss out on this great run.

Don't fret it Rook1. I have an imaginary spouse also. My camping club called him the phantom husband for the 1st three years until he finally showed up to a Christmas Party. Then they asked him if he was a Rent-a-Husband.
He hates camping, dirtbiking, and JEEPING! (all the fun stuff!)

Cub River at that time would be just GREAT. June has 5 weekend's, the fourth is the 22 & 23 and the fifth is 29 & 30. I can do either one. we would love to have the group to come and play. Jerry

X2 for Jared's ideas on mtgs.
Trail rides: it'd be great to schedule one each month wherever possible. Not everyone can make every trail ride, so the more options available, the more likely you are to see new and different people come out. I agree with the Cub River run, let's do it. Good chance for Northeners to come out.
Wrenching parties: these are totally spontaneous, but anytime someone is working on their heep post it up. It's a great way to meet new people, help out on a project, and maybe learn something.
Bottom line, I think the chapter overall is doing well. The biggest obstacle to all of us is work and family obligations. That's why the more options there are for getting out, the more people will take advantage of it. Anytime I can't make a M&G or trail ride I look at the calendar to see what my next option is.
Brad
