I'd love to hear from anyone who's been (53guy is the most recent I can recall). A bud and I are plannig to go Sunday (if the water isn't too high) and would like to hear some comments. How long is the trail, what kind of prep/breakage can be expected, etc., that kind of stuff.

I wouldn't mind having some more compay as well. Right now it's just me ('89 XJ locked f/r on 33's w/4.56, skids, winch, etc) and my buddy ('89 BroncoII - yeah, I still talk to him in public, pretty much stock w/3" lift and 31's, winch, etc). We plan on hitting the trail some time around 8:00 AM (we're in Orange County, about 25 minutes away).

We went earlier this year, but the water was REALLY high and it looked a bit too deep/fast for our taste, so we skipped it and went on to GWNF. Since then he's gotten more experience wheeling, the water is down some, and I'm locked f/r, so we're up for it. Besides, gotta break in the new paint somehow... :D

Post up with trail reviews and/or let me know if we can get this group of two up to about five or six.

Thanks all

EDIT: the trip is PLANNED, not "palnned" for Sunday 7/9/06.

More coffe please :shiver: :shiver:

The place is a pretty nice run, water was really low last time I went, so unless it rains this week, it probably won't be crazy high. I'd love to go with you and might bring someone along, but I'll have to check with work and make sure I have the weekend off before I confirm. As far as I can tell, the trail is still open, but if we get there and they have signs everywhere, we might have to go to GWNF for some wheeling. Just have an alternate plan in mind if you really want to go. I'd say the wheeling isn't too crazy for slightly modified vehicles (a bunch of stock rubi's went through last run) and its almost childs play for someone on 35's+. Umm, I wouldn't really expect much, but there were a ton of people camped out in the middle of the trail last time we were there (all from Louisiana funny enough) so you might be weary of them. Just let me know if you're set on going on sunday or if saturday is an option as well. Either way, let me know if you're still interested and I'll check my schedule.

IH8RDS: Thanks for the info, Like the last post on dso indicated, it would be nice if someone would make a decision and publish it. We're set to go and if we see signs closing the area then we'll just have to go with the backup plan.

53guy: Thanks for posting up. After seeing the crazy high water a few months ago and your photos form Memorial Day weekend (looked like a great time by the way) I figured that unless we get a bunch more rain this week, it should be passable.

Unfortunatley Sunday is our only available day. My wheeling bud runs a motorcycle shop and Saturday is his one day a week he's open, rest of the time is by appointment only. Plus, I've got to finish getting my stuff back together after painting last weekend.
We've always got backup plans, we were just hoping to go someplace new. We've done most of the GWMF stuff around Harrisonburg to death. The only thing we (okay, I) really want to do there is go UP Dictum Ridge trail. The last time we were there we got stuck behind a group of youngsters that didn't know when to give up. The bottom 100 yards or so is the only part we haven't done. The rest is pretty tame, and I'm looking for more technical stuff.

I hope you can come Sunday, it would be nice to have some more company.

PM if you can make it, I'll respond with email/cell number.

Thanks, I think. What I really want to say would land this so far in the Den ........:flamemad:

I appreciate the link and the information. I guess it's time to find somewhere else for Sunday.

I guess its back to Dictum Ridge. One of these weekends I'm getting out of the state to either Tellico, Paragon, Uhwarrie (sp), or somewhere that I know will be open.

I was hoping to work my way up to Crozet style action, but I guess I'll just have to say screw tha baby steps eh?

Well, that sucks about conway. Non-stick, if you find some other trail or make some hard rock plans I think me and another might go. Just keep us updated. I have no idea where Dictum Ridge is, so that might be fun if its not too far. We're in F-burg, so its not but a 45 minute drive to Orange from us.

I'll get in touch with my bud and we'll finalize plans. I'll let you know what we decide.

Dictun ridge is in GWNF outside Harrisonburg. In the same general area as Second Mountain trail etc. There are plenty of trails, it's just that they aren't all that challenging (after the fifth time or so), except for a few spots, the bottom of Dictum Ridge is one spot.

We're on the east end of Orange (East of 522) so we're not too far away. If you know where Tony's Used Auto Parts is, I'm less than 2 miles form there and Randy (bud) is only another mile or so from me.

I'll keep you posted.

Ya, its too bad about Conway being closed. It was a nice easy trail ride. I would love to come out this weekend but it's about 4 hours one way for me. So leaving Sunday morning and coming back Sunday night, just isnt going to work for me.

Non-stick, your already good for Crozet. I ran the blue's open/open on 32'' AT's the most improtant thing about Crozet is not caring about a little body damage. If you have a good spotter and sliders you could make it out clean.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm pretty sure there are trails well within the capability of the vehicle, it's the driver that's my concern:jester:

I went to Crozet on a non-open weekend and seeing the crazy buggies there kind of intimidated me. Chris was really nice and gave me the URL to sign up, but my schedule just hasn't matched up to his. Guess I need to get my prorities straight.

I've got sliders and skids, but we just got done painting last weekend http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=90640 and I'm not it that big a hurry to get my new rock flames.....

I think we're just going to troll around GWNF and JNF to see what trails are open. We went to JNF shortly after deer season ended and the only stuff that wasn't gated closed were the main fireroads, so maybe they've opened them up with the warmer weather. If we find some good spots we'll post up again and look for company. I hate to burn other folks' gas scouting around.

I may just bite the bullet and sign up for the next open weekend at Crozet. No teacher like experience:shiver:

Later folks.

That sucks man. Well, I guess it turned out for the better anyhow. I probably have to work this weekend. Big push at work to get some stuff done by Monday, so I guess I'll find out what kinda weekend I'll have if any tomorrow. I have a bit of wrenching to do on a buddys Jeep anyhow. Well, definately keep me posted on any future plans. I'm always up for some fun. Yeah, I can't really afford just trolling for open stuff either, but any planned stuff I'm more than willing to go with ya!
