How hard is it to replace an 8.25 axle shaft? It's a 29-spline unit. Is it a c-clip or something else. I'll consult the Haynes manual today but I'm just wondering if it's a pain or not. I've got one with a bent flange on the end (is that what it's called?).

It's easy. Go for it.

Diff cover off, drain, retaining screw out, cross pin out, push axle shaft towards the pumpkin and rotate, you will hear the C-clip fall out. Then just pull back on the shaft and it will slide out. Be careful not to nick the shaft bearings as you pull it.
