Ok, so I bought a New to me XJ tonight. I got a screamin deal on it so the few minor things wrong I am fixing myself.
Its a 2001 XJ 4x4
It has a Pioneer DEH-P6500 aftermarket stereo in it. It sounds AWSOME except the drivers door speaker is not working. I went to replace the speakers and the new one also didnt work. Its only the drivers door speaker that is not working. I removed the head unit and it look prefessionally installed as all connections are crimped into a factory style harness. So my question is can a head unit just die on 1 side of the speaker? Or do I have a wiring problem.
The wires looked good in the door, and in the dash but who knows.
I will probably start toning out the wires tomorrow to see if I can find the color for the drivers door.
Anyway, just wanting to know if it is possable just the one side of the radio can go out and the rest work fine?

Thanks

It's electonically possible for only one side to quit on a stereo, but not likely. My guess would be speaker wiring. Coincidently, I have a Pioneer DEH-xxx stereo in mine too, and the door speaker quit working a few years ago. I'm not the audiofile I used to be so I never tried to fix it. Maybe it's not so unlikely, and the DEH models had a problem with the left side. Let me know what you come up with.

Edit: did a quick search and it seems speaker problems are not that uncommon.

Do you still happen to have your book that shows what color wires feed the left front speaker?

DOH, I feel like such a NOOB!!!!!!
Why didnt I search, I ALWAYS search.
LOL

I will try finding it at the kick panel but if you still have the color code for the Pioneers, that would be helpful as I will probably run new wires to both fronts anyway now.

Thanks again.

Now let the public beatings commence!!!!!!!!!!

It must be a cherokee thing because my drivers side door speaker is out as well and I have a Kenwood CD deck. Just another thing on the list to fix :repair:

Well Thanks to Mike for the Slap on the head and the advice also.
I pushed on the wire harness in the door jam and sure enough, it worked for a second.
So, instead of trying to fix the old wire, I just ran a new wire straight to the deck. Now I think the drivers door speaker sounds better since I used a thicker better quality wire. LOL
Now I suppose I will do the passanger side next.

Thread RESOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
