Probably the best source to bend TUBE is here:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/bendin_tube/index.html

But your cheap PIPE bender isn't going to be able to do anything close to what you may need it to do without kinking the TUBE.

....unless of course you're bending PIPE, then you should probably hit up a plumber's forum.

Plumbers don't bend pipe... They use unions.

Basically, take a scrap peice of the size and wall you plan to use (and make sure you use a pipe size...), mark the centre of the peice and record it's length, mark the centre of the die, then align your centre mark with the die centre... Bend it to a 90* or whatever you plan to use (you might have to do a couple different degreees of bends if you want things to be really accurate), then put a square over it and measure from the bend centre back to the end of the pipe... Then you know how much material you need to make a bend with it, and where the centre has to be placed.

And for the record, you can buy tube with a 1.9" OD (same as 1.5" sch40) if you can't stand using pipe.

or hit up any structural engineer , since a large portion of cranes and other large steel structures are built of pipe along with alot of formula offroad buggys over seas that have 800hp and roll violently backwards down steep hills. a properly designed cage built out of pipe will hold up better then a poorly designed cage built of dom, yes dom is better but its not as bad as you may think. this has been discussed numerous times on pirate and here, when it comes down to it the people bashing pipe have no real hard facts. show me two pictures of a failed cage out of pipe and ill show you 8 failed cages built of dom , design and construction is more important than pipe or tube .

if you wanna bend a sharp degree with the pipe simply bend in one spot a lil then slightly move it, repeat untill you have what you want. it will slightly dent the tube but it will not kink it if done properly. dom and a good tube bender is much easier/quicker and stronger, but pipe will get the job done.

Poop pipe is the way to go. Will be very heavy but as strong as needed. Did 1 1/2 end over ends on poop pipe. Brown shorts all the way. A 4 point roll bar not a cage. Love that poop pipe.

You need to bend a 90 degree with the bender first so you can get your radius that the bender makes. You use that piece to gauge all of your bends.

the radius is adjustable on the harborfrieght pipe bender, ive built two exos with mine about to do my 3rd.

also bend with the seam on the inside of the bend and make a mark on the center of your dies so you can use that to line up the mark on your pipe with your bender.
