I know I can't have someone make a decision for me...just wondering what you guys would do in this situation. So here it goes:

At the moment, I attend Virginia Tech. I love this school, but they're kinda screwing me over. I was not accepted under engineering, therefore, i can not take ANY engineering classes until I take and pass intro to engineering. Here's the problem. It's my second semester and I wasn't accepted into that class. I have to wait until the fall to get into that class (already a year behind). Even then, I am not gauranteed a spot in the class. If i dont get into that class...i'm screwed, I dont know that I can take 3 semesters of core classes. So...do I stay in and risk it all. ORRR, do I transfer to another school which is closer, cheaper, and i have a better chance of getting into engineering. Thanks in advance for your help.

In the end the school from which the degree is earned doesn't matter all that much. The degree is what matter's. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the name of the school...

Well Matt....

Virginia Tech does sound a bit better than "Bob's Diploma Hut" or City University.

But yeah your right to a point. Find a major school that will get you in and transfer.

well the school i'm lookin to transfer to is elizabethtown college. It's small, in PA...but hey, it's relatively close to Rauche Creek :-P. But seriously. I deffinately see what you guys are saying. So ya'll think I should transfer? And a second problem. I was going to live with three of my friends...and if I back out...Their rent will go up from prob. 250 to a lil over 300 a month if i can't find someone to take my place. So now...what do i do about that?

You are already in for this semester right ? Get it done and then transfer. I never realized how $ucked up most of the college administrations are till my kids started, one just graduated but is going back in sept, other is at temple for two more years.. thats a good school, good administration too.

Update:
Well, last night I found out that the person replacing me in the lease had to know by today, cause on campus crap all had to be done by then end of today. So I talked to my parents, and they basically said that we can't make a decision over night, I said we have to, and they said then ur staying. So that's what I told the other guys so I guess that's what I'm doin. I just hope it's the right decision and I dont get screwed with $20k worth of debt for no reason.

Don't go into debt on your parents decision. If they don't pay the bill all they can do is watch. This coming from someone who moved out and paid all his own bills (including school and grad school) from the time he was 17. Cut the cord- stand up and do it right. Who cares what the decision will be, stand on your own is worth more than anything else.

Good luck.

look at it long term, when its all said and done whats another year? I will probably take 7 years to graduate. No typo, 4 year undergrad degree, +1 year behind from switching majors, +1/2 year for training, and another 1.5 years for a likely deployment. My point is if Va Tech is worth it I say stick with it. However i agree with others that it is not where you got your degree, but it is what you do with it and how hard you work at it. Of course, if its between MIT and tunxis community college thats different, but it seems like thats not the case here

goodluck

For some fields, it does, or at least, it can matter where you get your degree. If you're talking about general business, CIS or other similar degrees, then yes, it really doesn't make a difference.

I have no idea about VA Tech's engeering program or where they rack and stack among other universities, but you might want to look into it. The university where I'm getting my degree is one of the top three in the world in my field, employers know it, and they pay accordingly.
