ok so i just found out today that u can get the new 07 wrangler in 2wd meaning no 4wd at all. my friend told me this after him and another friend were bored and went up to the jeep dealership to check out the new wranglers. i didnt beleive it i mean wrangler just saying that name pretty much is like saying 4wd or 4x4. so i went up to the dealership to see it for myself and there they were not just one but mutiple ones without 4wd. i was filled with extreme sad and extreme fury all at the same time and i about cried :bawl: . not to mention i saw today in the new JP magazine that there is a Wrangler SRT6 in the works and it will be lowered with a body kit but yet it will have a winch :banghead:. seriously WTF is jeep doing they are just about completely abandoning their off-road image and legacy. im a huge chrysler fan and definately a mopar man but im really starting to question chrysler and jeep now. what is happening with the world today? like no matter what happened in the world i always could count on wranglers bein 4wd and jeep meaning off-road but now i dont know what to think anymore

"just met Andi last night. She said I wrote her the longest “Be My Friend” letter she had ever seen. Actually, I think it was a record, even for me. I kept finding intriguing things that I wanted to ask questions about. I don’t know her that well yet, but I can tell you, Andi is one very interesting person. First of all, she said she likes to babble. I like to babble, I just like to do it with my fingers. I babble in print, but babbling is babbling and it is a rather fine art. It is a fine art you cannot cultivate, however, because if you cultivate it, it turns into something else and you are no longer babbling. Andi says that she is a random person. I quite like the idea of being random, what if you were the opposite, which is … nonrandom. *snort* really, it is. But it also means orderly, purposive, systematic which probably would make life easier, but it wouldn’t be nearly as interesting. While I was reading her ideas about her clothes (“They're a layer, you know? Clothes are like…. a window to the soul. Or at least to the mask that we put on each day, if we aren't so enlightened that we throw away our mask.”) I was listening to Leonard Cohen singing about Suzanne … “Suzanne takes your hand and she leads you to the river, she is wearing rags and feathers from Salvation Army counter, and she shows you where to look among the garbage and the flowers, there are heros in the seaweed, there are children in the morning, they are leaning out for love and they will lean that way forever, while Suzanne holds the mirror …” I don’t know if Andi wears rags and feathers, but if she did, I think she’d probably wear them well. I'm like, oh my GOD!"

Anyways, even though this is old news....I agree with the orig. poster....I think. A 2wd Wrangler kinda defeats the purpose of a wrangler. But I guess that's DC trying to appeal to all the different markets at the same time.

It's DC's attempt to tap the young "urban" market. I saw a 2wd one at the bank the other day with low profile tires and big ole shiny rims. Then I saw the young "urban" owner climb in and drive off, going thumpity, thumpity.

Hey, I can go thumpity thumpity too....it's not just a wrangler thing. I actually like to make it thump every now and then. Especially when I pull up to some stupid ricer who thinks they have a system.

You're right.
I had a '94 2WD XJ that was a stipped-down model. It got 24-26mpg.

I guess that will make all of our Jeeps just alittle more valuable. And worth holding on to. Someday you might see them on Barret Jackson bringing 1k or more.:rtm:

...not to mention i saw today in the new JP magazine that there is a Wrangler SRT6 in the works and it will be lowered with a body kit but yet it will have a winch...I'm pretty sure that's a joke. Was it in the April issue, by chance...?

It was on Timbercrawler.com last week:

A 2wd Wrangler is nothing to cry about. Jeep's gotta appeal to more people if they want to stay in business.

Ben824
February 12th, 2007, 23:28
ok yes i realize they made the XJ in 2wd but its also and SUV and in my opinion a Wrangler is not and SUV or truck or car it, to me, is its own class. as far as appealing to the market thats why they have that stupid liberty that they replaced our beloved XJ with. if someone wants a 2wd Jeep then thats what they look at besides low pros and rims dont belong on a wrangler

Not that I totally agree with making a 2wd wrangler, I would drive an srt-6 wrangler if it had that much power. I would change a few things about the body like lose the wing and paint it a darker color like a dark grey or even black.
It would be a sweet every day get to work and go to the grocery and pick up the kids kind of vehicle. And then I could just go huge on my XJ and not have to worry about daily driveability.
It would help Jeep stay profitable in the marketplace and be able to keep building wranglers that are worthwhile to the 4x4 community. Not every Jeep vehicle can be a Rubicon driveable vehicle because Jeep would eventually go under.

And the tunning capabilities of it could be unbelievable with some tuning.

i agree with jeep havin to appeal to the market but im sayin that they dont have to do it with the wrangler. thats why they have all the other vehicles that they offer

Kinda reminds me of when I looked at an old (62) binder years back when I was visiting in GA. I just had to check it out because mine had a rotted body.

I had never seen a 2wd binder before then, and I haven't seen one since.

Appearantly you don't need 4wd to get around in GA.

edit: I just noticed the old thread thing ;) I must have missed it the first time :)

I'd never seen a 2wd XJ till about 99 or so, was down in Orlando and stopped at a place for breakfast, thought the two XJ sports in the parking lot looked funny so I walked over and looked underneath, NO PUMPKIN. I've also seen quite a few 2wd YJ's and TJ's, all in the islands. I've also seen 2wd M151's in the Bahamas and bonaire too, usually in some outlandish glow in the dark color but they did sell them I guess outside the country.

But the 2WD Postal versions can trace back to the DJ (Dispatcher,) and are almost invariably RHD or RHD conversions (so they don't have to lean WAAAAYY across to put the mail in the mailbox...)

One of my neighbors is a rural delivery po driver, she has a right hand drive 04 TJ hard top that she uses. The only mods she did was swap wheels with some solid aluminum AR's to keep the brake dust down on the wheels. The other PO delivery people have RHD XJ's, seemed to have been a popular choice, mainly because the two local jeep dealers [if you consider 30-40 miles one way local] keep quite a few in stock and the rural carriers buy their own vehicles.

Who is familiar with the Ford Raptor?
google it.
Now think if Jeep took a Wrangler, GC or maybe even a Lib. Made kickass suspension and V8s all around.
Thats the kinda Jeep i want.

You do know what the Raptor is correct?

Okay maybe i didnt get my point across.
What i ment was the SRT is a "specialty" model of Jeep.
The Raptor is a "speciatly" model of Ford.
I liked that the Raptor was made to handle more rugged terrain AND be more powerful, and i disliked that the Jeep was just more street worthy...

it seems that I am the only one so far that hates this polished piece of $hit.
Like any other FORD product built after 1969, I don't like them.
This specimen is particularly disgusting to me. Aside from the GIANT FORD across the front, and a front bumper with two giant holes in it, it looks like a retarded possum with its eyes to close together crossed with a PUG dog that has its face smashed in.
but hey, that's my extremely picky taste...

Well i guess "To each, his own"
And yes the huge Ford across the front could be removed in my opinion.
Currently i think Ford has the best TRUCK styling out of the big three.
I am personally more of a 70s/80s style fan, (maybe thats why i like my XJ?)

Do you at least like the suspension/drivetrain?

I think its a pretty nice looking truck, minus the grill. It is a bit pricey though. Ford has been running it through a lot of desert races and its done pretty good.

If Jeep were to do a "Raptor" Grand Cherokee it wouldn't have any of the qualities that you hate. Besides, seriously, who cares what the thing looks like if it performs well?

I have, in my live time NEVER driven a Ford that I liked the suspension, steering, or any other aspect of its driving...
That said... it is impressive how they seem to have put a lot of effort into making it into an off road(baja style) truck. but truthfully...I personally being from the north east... would have no where to take it Baja... no dunes to open it up, and no beach to run on.. road, lots and lots of crappy road.

If Jeep were to do a "Raptor" Grand Cherokee it wouldn't have any of the qualities that you hate. Besides, seriously, who cares what the thing looks like if it performs well?
If they make a "raptor" GC... I will most likely find something to complain about, but would like it more than a Ford product, and would consider it for a drive if it was even remotely close to what I could afford to purchase. (which no new vehicle on the market today is affordable by me right now so my options are limited right now)

I hear it does perform well. congrats to ford on their success.
