Hi new guy here, just got a 99 XJ Sport, 4.0L 231, blah blah blah. My other "car" is a 96 ZJ 4.0L, 242. Anyway, what I want to say is you XJ guys and Jeep have been keeping the 4.0L a secret. It's barely adequite moving around the ZJ, but with 600 lbs less weight to haul, and 10 more HP, now I see why people say it's a winner. Of course I'm getting less MPG with the XJ, but that's because my stupid foot is having so much fun. Jeep really screwed up when they stopped building these.

The ZJ chassis certainly is a burly one for the 4.0 to haul.

I had to go the other direction. As my avatar still shows, I lost my '93 XJ last November. I picked up a '97 4.0L ZJ 'cause it was the best deal in the time I had to get back on the road. The only thing I regret is the loss of the AW4. I've managed to get 22mpg out of the ZJ by watching the tach. Force the shift points to 2krpm and cruise at 1.5krpm and I bet the XJ would do as well. I would guess that the ol' XJ would beat the ZJ off the line, but I can still beat 80% of the junk out there, so I'm happy for now.

Having said all that, I killed my mileage at lunch today. Stupid fawkers got in my way and I had to open the throttle to get away from them. Even so, 3krpm got me to 75 ahead of everybody else :D

Welcome to NAXJA. I'm hanging around, even without an XJ simply because it's a good place to be. Plus, I do still dream of building an expedition capable XJ someday.
