I was just curious if lifting your rig increases the cost of insurance in AZ ?

My insurance company told me anything over 6" & they drop me...

Really? Wow. Yeah I just got to thinking that lifting allows you to do more potentially damaging things to your rig and I cant imagine the insurance company likes that very much. Did your rates go up or just threaten to drop you?

Well I only have liability on it & glass coverage.
they never inspected it, but due to it being a 4x4 they asked if it was lifted, (only 2" BB) they said that was fine, but anything over 6" & they would'nt cover it. Even asked if they had different coverage for 4x4 lifted over 6" & they said no, after 6" their done with it.

Mind sharing what company that was? I've never felt the need to pass my upgrades by my insurance company. Not like they'd cover them anyway.

I lifted mine about 4" and put 31's on it right after I bought it. I drove it down to the insurance office and parked it right outside the agents office window and pointed it out to him as he was adding it to my policy. He commented on how nice it looked and never mentioned or asked about the lift. It didn't affect my rates at all.

Being someone that has had well over 25 vehicles on my short life, I have NEVER had an insurance company ask me if my rig was lifted. I have only had 3 insurance companies and they are Farmers, SAfeco, and State Farm.

I would ask them as to why they dont insure you after 6" of lift and are they really gonna go measure it with a tape measure?

I have 6 1/2 inch lift with 33's and just had mine inspected by my insurance company and they never said a word about the lift.

Sounds like you are dealing with the Hartford. I would dump any insurance company that simply says you aren’t insurable.

That’s what the Hartford did to me. I insured my XJ and my J20 with them. Shortly afterwards they sent me a notice saying that they found out I owned a CJ5 and were canceling my insurance. It turns out they won’t insure anyone who owns one of the top five most dangerous vehicles on the road, lol. I told them I didn’t need insurance for that vehicle but under az law if I was to drive it my other vehicle coverage through them would go into effect. I was asked to sign some waivers stating they weren’t liable so I dumped them.

I never had a problem after that.http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif

Dave,

Would you share who your agent is at American Famiy with me? I've always had insurance on my XJ as a stock vehicle. I called anonymously for a quote and described the XJ as built. They told me they wouldn't even consider insuring it. I'm with AIG.

I have an 8" lift and had the same problem with Geico. I had to call back and fight to get just comp. coverage so I could register my XJ. Bunch of crap I think b/c there are new full size trucks out there with 8" - 12" lift and you know that they aren't cruising around uninsured. I'd switch insurance co. but I can find anyone that can match the premiums with the cars and house.
