Well found a rear tire carrier in a junk yard, so pulled it off $22 and installed it this weekend.

Sweet! How big of a tire will it handle?

Not exactly sure but its a stock carrier off an 86 XJ.
I had my shop make me up a 16ga plate then spot welded an angle plate to one side to secure on the inside. A little fun with a plasma cutter & I was all set to install.

Good find and nice work installing it. I think as they come stock, they are generally considered to be good up to about 31". If you did some reinforcement beyond the stock configuration, it should handle a little bigger tire.

The donor XJ had the stock reinforcement but that was all spot welded in.
Thus the reason I had the 16ga plate made. so far seems quite solid, maybe NOW with this carrier my gate rattle will stop.

Hell of a deal for $8 :) NOW if I had my tools with me the day I saw it (Wed. last week) I could of gotten 10% off due to the rain. but heck $22 Im cool with that!
