I'm looking for a good, long lasting battery for mild off-road use. I've ran Optima Red-Tops in two other trucks and they've been okay, but one truck kept fryin em.

I'd like to try a different brand, just to dip my toes into new waters, if there's others that are comparable. I know there are brands with similar designs, but I don't know which, and am unaware of how they hold up.

What batteries are vibration resistant and long lasting like the Optima Red-Top or are better?

Odyssey is millitary spec, pure lead and pressure sealed cells. From what I understand, it is a great design in a smaller package or footprint.

What sorta specs am I looking for in a battery?

It's an '86 2.5L (auto and 4x4, if it matters). It's got a mild aftermarket sterio, and no aux lights right now, but maybe 2 down the road.

All of the aux stuff runs off of the alt, unless the motor is off.

You'd be fine with the Odyssey PC1200 or the PC1500 if you wanted more reserve minutes.

Check out the Exide Orbitals. Farm supply stores often sell them cheaper.

Well, websites aren't product.

Every tank in Iraq right now is running an Odyssey.

No wench no search light no 10,000 watt amps. Why would you spend one penny more on a battery then you need to? Get a brand name battery and leave the Jell-O batteries for the airplanes.

Off-camber obstacles tend to let batteries leak...

the odyssey batteries are great batteries. a friend of mine has one in his old ass land cruiser and we have run the crap out of that battery and it still has plenty of juice in it and its been in there for about 3 years now. i am running a yellow top optima in my s-10 (bagged and lays frame) and i have a system 2 air compressors ps2 and screen in there and never had any problems. the orbital batteries from exide suck... i sell then at work and they allways come back. currently my jeep just has an acid battery in it but its still not trail ready so its just so i can drive it. hope that helps.

I agree look into the Odyssey I had 2 yellow top optimas in mine one died within 6 months and took the other one with it a month later. I have since swithed to the Odyssey and have not had a problem yet. As soon as i win the lottery i will add a second one. I went with the 1700 model (IIRC) have had only 1 for over 2 years now.

If any body wants the damn Optimas i have 3 of them you can have, there no good, but i can't get them warrantied either. One of them is still in the original plastic wrapper too.

Buy a new one and take the other in its place to get replaced.

Second, where do you get odyssey batteries?

I sell Odyssey batteries and am in the process of becoming a Naxja vendor. ;) They ship well, don'tcha know.

Batteries have date codes burned in them, he can't take 'em back...

The guy at Schucks recommended the Orbital to me. It was $135.

I tried running a regular ol' Exide in my Yota, but I don't like the acid burning holes in my truck. Plus, that battery only lasted me a month.

Do any auto parts stores have Odysseys? AutoZone, Schucks, Napa?
I've gotta get one this week or next.

Odyssey batteries are pretty much mail order right now. Drop a line if you need to grab one.

Optima's are at any Interstate distributor (they joined forces in distribution).

Exide? Try your local dealer, they have them as will many of your parts stores.

That might work except that i wouldn't buy another one of those things if my life depepnded on it.

I ordered the Odyssey from summit racing.
