It's a pretty easy conversion that costs about $50. Below is a pic of mine. I haven't run an oiler. I basically just filled it up with Slick 50, let it sit, then blew it all out. Before each run I put a couple of squirts in there through the intake. Been fine for 5 yrs. The fittings on the compressor are from Kilby. Just ran a filter on the intake. On the output side, the hose goes to a check valve/unloader that bleeds off air in the line when the compressor stops to put less strain on it when it starts. Then to a 4 port pressure switch that I used as a manifold. There's a pop off valve (110 psi) on the bottom, gauge on the side, and quick disconnect on top. The pressure switch turns the compressor on and off and is adjustable. I wired it to a relay that kicks the compressor clutch on and off. Simple and reliable source of air.

Gasman,
Would you mind if I copied your setup exactly as shown? I'm piecing my OBA together at the moment, and I've looked at alot of pics of different setups....yours has to be the simplest, cleanest, most functional install I've come across:thumbup: :worship:
Got any other pics, by chance?
Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks! Copy away. Heck, I stole the idea of using the 4 port switch from someone. I got all the junk (except for the fittings on the compressor) at Grainger. For the compressor fittings, look here: http://www.kilbyenterprises.com/compressors.htm
Look for the "Rotolock" fittings about halfway down the page.
As for pics, what you see is the whole system except for the wiring relay. Not sure what else I can take a picture of but if you are looking for something specific, let me know and I'll get a pic.

Thanks for the info. One question....do you have any problems with the discharge hose heating up/softening? It looks like you're running a barbed brass fitting into power steering hose? I've got the factory discharge hose I was going to use, but if that setup works I'll go with that.
As far as other pics, I'd love to see just a general overhead shot of the whole setup, if you had one.
Thanks again,
Jeff

Good catch on the hose, kind of forgot about that. I blew regular air line hose a couple of times so tried plain old 3/8" power steering return hose and it's held up perfectly. My theory is it's made for high pressure and underhood heat. As you can see, I made a shield out of a piece of the old hose where it goes over the radiator hose. Here's a pic of the whole thing. Got to love that AMC wiring mess!

Thanks Gasman, I owe ya a beer or five :wave1:
One other question....where did you source the 4 port switch?

I got the switch from Grainger. It's a Square D unit. I don't have a book at home, so I'll check next week and see if I can dig up the part number.

How much pressure can the AC compressor put out. I am looking into on board air and am going to use an old CO2 tank for an air tank.

Enough to blow whatever relief valve you use to make the system safe. A guy in the club I was part of in WA had his rock sliders plumbed up as tanks. His A/C clutch locked up and he had no relief valve. Within a few minutes it blew the 300 psi hose under the hood. After the incident, his rock sliders were visibly bulged from the pressure
