This has been going on for about a year but getting worse lately. I've replace distributor, plugs, wires, cap, TPS, CPS, coil, oxygen sensor.
The Jeep is a 96 4.0 aw4. The problem first started after driving for long periods in the summer months, even though the Jeep never overheats and runs and idles great but will start cutting out at higher rpm, around 3500, then gradually starts cutting out at lower rpms, around 2100 rpms. If your on the freeway running smoothly along at 1800 rpms, come to a grade and the trans downshifts, it's very much like having a rev limiter set and 2100 or what ever rpms it's cutting out at that time.
I've now noticed when it's doing this I can turn the key off for a few seconds, turn it back on and it will do fine for a while, how long seems to do with how hot or cold it is outside.
I did the " count the flashes deal" and got this 1 2 3 3 7 7 2 1 1 1 5 6
On cold winter days I never seem to have a problem. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. If all else fails I guess I could move to Alaska lol.
