I have a 96 and the problem is that when the engine is at idle the oil pressure is normal but when I increase the RPM, no matter how little, the oil pressure goes past the limit of the guage. This is with a new sending unit.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Take it back and get a new one. I'm sure there is a test but I wouldn't waste my time.

Have your exhaust system checked for blockage too. Also the instrument gauge or wiring could be a problem. The oil pressure sender is reported by many to be a probelm child, even new ones.

What oil are you running, specs?

What are the ambient temperatures there.

Have you changed the oil viscosity, brand, etc. recently? Did this start after an oil-filter change?

How many miles on it?

Exactly what oil pressure do you have at idle, cold and hot?
