89 XJ 4.0 won't start

I bought this for my brother for $400.00 complete but it won't start. (I bought it knowing it was going to need work) How do you pull the codes from these??

Any help would be appreciated.

sorry, no codes...

download a pdf copy of FSM from search results and get out your Ohm meter... there have been numerous threads in just the past week or so with similar issues..

good luck... there are many that do help here...

check the crank sensor(mounted on left side of bellhousing) and ground wires on right side of block (towards the back)

Well, it's running!

My brother took all the electronic control units off and cleaned all the contacts and then turned it over and it started!

So far, it's the best $400.00 I ever spent!
