I am interested in running up to Bald. I haven't driven the Jeep more than 1000' all year. Some of my friends have a super 35 upgrade scheduled for Sat or Sun (don't know what date yet). If the work day is Sunday I am in for Bald. I need to get out of this EFFEN valley sauna.

I might be interested if my work schedule allows me to play this weekend I am in. I will now what the schedule is tommorrow.
What about running strawberry or mirror as well?
Matt S.
July 19th, 2006, 23:24
Well.. with the group we got, I dont know if chancing mirror would be fun. Thats kind of why I am thinking Brewer Lake. Its scencic, short, and has some BIG fun rocks for a few of us mild rigs. We have 3 guys who have hardly ever been off road going, all with open diffs. They have 31s and one has 33s.
You should try to make it!

We are hoping to get a clients inventory done by Friday and since I work the 2nd shift I might not need to bring in my crew in on Saturday so I might be able to make it. We might need to camp for the night and head back on Sunday. I'll know more tommorrow.

Prolly going on the south part (left at the fork). Get to the fun parts faster and get to miss out on a long bumpy ride.

Haha, easy there! You're going to scare me off!
I've got basic recovery taken care of. Tow hooks up front and a hitch with reciever shackle in the back.
Just curious, what's your guy's engine temp when going up the 4 lane? Mine is one white mark above 210. It doesn't overheat, but it scares me.

I was at that mark last Saturday, and I had to turn around at Friant and head back home.
Since you were on the 4 lane, did it go back down once you were getting into Shaver?

So it is not just me. These ambient temperatures of 105+ really play with cooling.

Yes it went down some, it seems to like to hover between 210 and the next mark. I replaced the water pump a little over a year ago and the radiator about 2 months ago, so im pretty confident in the cooling system. I am missing my fan shroud, but i wouldn't think that would effect highway driving. I'm going to try and dilute the coolant down to about 55/45 of water/coolant and see how that does. Maybe a new t-stat while im at it.
Some what back on topic, about how long is the Bald Mountain trail?
Joe

The actual trail is kind of short but there are alot of little obstical to play around.

Well you guys may hate me... but I got off work and decided I needed to get outa the heat!
I went up today and swam in Shaver Lake till it started to rain, then did the long way through Bald Mtn in the rain. WHAT A GREAT TIME! No pictures, just wanted to go relax and take my time. Trail is in good condition and i was happy it was raining, no dust!!
Billabong, remember I have an open invitation for this saturday. If you cant get your junk together, you can hitch it with me. I dont bite to hard:angel: I really do need a passenger for this trip, otherwise I will probably be riding shotgun with my buddy Henry in his Blazer.
BTW, SWAMP LAKE IS OPEN! WOOHOO:exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati :exclamati

I thought the brake booster would be easy, those 4 bolts under the dash are pain in the *ss to get to! It's done though, so I'll be up there tomorrow at 9. I will be on ch. 6 on the cb.
Oh yea, thats ^ what me jeep looks like. You can flag me down if you see me.

A few change of plans. 2 of the guys who were going, are not. I am going still, but I am riding with my buddy in his Blazer. We should be hitting the trail around 12ish.
BenH will be there around 10. And JoesXJ should be around the trail about that time too.
If you dont want to go alone, you are MORE than welcome to take a little later start and chill with us. We will hang out later too.
This is the rig i am in.

How was it up there? It was freakin hot here, 112 degrees on my porch till I turned the mister-fan, and a beer on.

There was a nice breeze at the top, although I think it was hotter in my xj than it was outside.

Did the trail get washed out? There was a really tight section about 2/3's the way up. Looked like the trail had turned into a stream, so they had rerouted it between a couple of trees. Couldn't imagine trying to take anything bigger than my xj through. From the gouges on some of the trees it looked like someone else had though.
