231 upgrade to 241 transfercase

87 XJ 4.0L automatic tail shaft is smaller than 241 recieves
Should I change transmissions or is it possible to change just the tail shaft
I'm trying to get the 4to1 case to work Thanks
 
Use the search feature,theres been several threads in the last couple weeks!
 
The older (87-90) AW4's had a 21 spline, and went to 23 spline in 1991. Get a later tranny, since to replace the output shaft you'd need to tear the old tranny apart anyhow.

Not sure if the computer would wire up either.

Since he mentioned 4:1, I think he's refering to the NV241OR(Rocktrac)
 
AH, I see. You'll need a 23 spline output AW4, you'll find them in the later models (I think 95 plus?).

Pay close attention to the input on the t-case to make sure it's the right length so you get the proper contact on the transmission output seal.
