And one of these days I will finish my Dana 44 and 30 and throw it under my jeep, but that may be another month or two so I can put the lift on it all at once.

That's a very clean good looking rig you've got there! It's one thing to build a rig that wheels well but it's something else to build one that looks damn good while doing it too!

That's how you do it MANG. Start with a nice 4.5 incher. Spend a couple weeks/months/years working out the bugs. The first time you take it out you'll be so happy that you went with 4.5" instead of anything bigger. Then after about 8-10 trips you'll wish you went 8" on 36es. Anyway, looks like you made a good start.

Fenders cut:

1997, 4.0 Auto, 8.25 out back, HP D30 up front. Soon to be 190kmiles.

Bastard leaf packs in back (original main leaf, Dakota packs mixed in)
Ford F100 Coils up front with 1.75" spacers or whatever they are.
4.5" in back, 4.0" in front when installed, I'm sure it's settled since then.
Removed rear sway bar, JKS quick disco's up front, Kevin's Offroad front track bar. OME Steering stab, drop pitman, Doetche shocks up front, Rancho's in back. Spent as little money on it as I could, got Rubicon Wheels AND tires for $550, not the $800+ people seem to be asking these days.

You did a great job on your fender trim. I might have to try to employ your services. I'm a little tentative to start that one, but I need to because I just went to 12.5 wide from 10.5 tires and me thinky they rubby.

22 pages later, I'm speechless. I can't begin to describe how different your build is to anything I've ever been involved in. I just think it is cool that you still call it an XJ. Because that thing is more Chevy / Alien Spaceship / Slagmobile than anything. Wow ! The time, the $$$$, the innovation. Real cool. Hope to see you on the trail sometime. Would love to see that thing in person.

Yeah my Chiropractor is next to Ballys was going to get my back wrenched on. (too much time under the XJ's rear bumper)
As for the Bumpers... Theres a guy on Craigslist who makes them... I however ended up cutting off his 3/16" rail mount & made my own 1/4" frame mount & also made it long enought to reinforce the steering box as well. The D-rings are ok BUT I added a 3/16" backing as that 5"X2" tube tends to flex a bit. But over all Im happy with them.
Ill get some pic's up in the next few days.

Although this XJ is currently in Florida, it will be residing in Sedona in about a week. It was originally from Sedona and so it returns with a little lift and a new set of shoes. Locked in front and has about 4.5" lift. Need to find a decent roof rack and a rear bumper tire carrier. Will probably need to do some trimming as well...

What are the specs?

How do you like the leaf springs up front?

jchevy
May 26th, 2007, 14:58
Its a 93 Cherokee 4.0/aw4/np231

HP dana 44 front, 9" rear, 5.13 gears, spools, hydo assist steering, 37" Iroks and of course the exo cage.

When I bought the jeep it had stock axles with the leaf springs in the front and the roof cut off it, no cage. It was just someones toy that never really got finished . The leaf springs do pretty good, i dont really have any complaints, but i think i would rather have coils. One of these days it will get 4 linked. Its a lot of fun to take out and beat up.

Hey all,

Here's my rig...'90 with 4.6L stroker, D44 front & rear w/ Detroits & 5.13s, custom three-link long arm front w/ Rustys 8.5" coils, rear Rustys 6.5" springs w/ 1.5" shackles, 37" Swamper SSRs. These pictures are right after I got it off the jackstands from building the front suspension, so still some fine tuning to do before hittin the trails.

Here's my money pit. Probably gonna put the rear doors back on until I can put tube doors on it, for the kids protection. I'm still debating if I want to do an internal or exo cage on it. I'd almost like to do a combo of the both but then it'd start getting real expensive. Axles are stock but I have a D60 rear end sitting in the garage, and I'm in search of a front axle. I'm running a teraflex 4" long arm kit, 33" mud terrains, ARB front bumper, custom rock slider, home build rear bumper, and M8000 winch with plasma rope.

This was taken out at tablemesa when I first put the snorkel kit on had to give it a small test, we were much deeper two weeks ago (if you were reading the post "up periscope").

Unfortunatly his phone wouldn't take pics fast enough so there is no pic of us in the deepest part of this run but I figured I would post 'em. It's the only pics I have of my XJ.

I'm just posting up my XJ and all the new Items I've recently added:
The lift is 6.5"- I used 4.5" RE coil spring in front with 2" coil spacers so that I wouldn't get any coil bind like you do with some 6.5" coils. I also used RE HD track bar and HD bracket. RK tri link long arm, with a spherical joint in the upper diff mount. RE sway bar disconnects. Chromoly sleaved tie rod center link. tom woods drive shaft with AA SYE on a stock 231. Rear leafs are deaver 4" springs with RE 1.5" shackles. Bilestin 5150 shocks. OR-Fab Front bumper with warn 8000lb winch. The rock rails I made my self and had performance powder coatin prescott, AZ, powder coat to match the front. The tires are 33 12.5 15 goodyear MT/Rs on 15 canyon wheels with 1.5" wheel spacers front and rear. The front D30 has a aussie locker with a DT Fab diff cover and stock chrysler 8.25 rear.

Looks good. but I would HIGHLY recommend a Long arm lift kit as opposed to a short arm that goes that high. I ran a 6.5" short arm and although it flexed good, it beat the crap out of me. I upgraded to a RK Long arm and MAN, it feels like a caddie and flexes like nobodys business. Just my opinion but I think you should go LA and be done with it.

AZRockRunner
October 15th, 2008, 14:22
by simply looking at the control arms. there are 4 short arms included in that kit.
There are several types of long arm kits like the RK 3-link and the Y-link systems that use 2 longer arms with 2 shorter arms for the upper links.

If you would like to discuss further, please shoot me a PM or start a new topic in general chat and I will be happy to assist you further.

Hey alan, I could have sworn I saw a rig identical to yours here in yuma the other day! Those are LeBaron hood vents, right? I doubt there's a rig anything like yours down here... am I mistaken?

alanzona
December 12th, 2008, 08:15
Man, I wish I had been in Yuma wheelin' the other day, but sadly, no, it wasn't me.

Those are Grand Prix hood vents, instead of hte leBaron hood vents. Helps with the underhood heat, though. They worked well wheelin' this summer.

Mario - that bumper is really kickin. Geoff (Showboat) made that. He's running one on his rig too. Strong as hell.

I'm picking up my new XJ tomorrow hopefully, can't wait to have some fun with it!!

1989 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4
4.0L Renix I6
AW4 trans
NP242 TC
Stock axles

Its in such immaculate condition, I don't plan on molesting it too badly. Its also going to be my DD, so I don't want to go too crazy. The first thing I'm doing, literally within a couple days, is giving the outside a good buff and wax, the paint is in great shape and I want to keep it that way. I'm going to finish removing the side molding, as well as removing all the bulky side badges. I have a set of gold newer-style decals to replace them with, I like the more modern look of them. Need to do a couple basic maintenance things first, then I'm putting on a pair of KC Daylighters, nice but simple stereo system, window tint, and not too much else. In the long run, a RE 3.5" lift, Cragar steel wheels powdercoated to match the gold pinstriping and badges, and some BFG Mud-Terrains.

Anyways, here it is, I will get more pics when I bring it home hopefully tomorrow.

Great looking rig, man. You are right about having fun with it. Wheel how and where you want and enjoy your rig. It really is the best of both worlds when you can wheel your DD. There is plenty of offroading to go around and everything doesn't have to climb up the side of a building. Glad you have you here and look forward to wheelin' with you sometime soon.
