Although a cross obviously implies Christianity, if you're going to get so technical as to remove it for that reason, my question would be what legally makes it an official Christian symbol?

Why is it that some "Nut Job" always has to attack anything to do with religion or semi religious symbol? :dunno: It's not like the state, or country is coming & dragging you off to church or something. If you believe great, if not, then let others that do enjoy. Most the time, it's just because they get a wild hair & go nuts on something they could choose to ignore.

Same issue in San Francisco a few years back, cross erected by Work Progress Administration in the late 30's early 40's on Mt Davidson, highest point in the city and used in the Clint Eastwood movie 'Dirty Harry' was threathened to be torn down due to lawsuit. The city actually wanted to keep it as historic value, but in the end sold the land that the cross sat on to a council of churches. Access to the land is via an existing easement. So San Diego may want to use the same precedent.
and before everyone continues rapping on California..other states face the same issues especially public creches, public postings of the 10 commandmants, Pledge of Allegiance, etc.
The thing that should concern everyone is the symbols from other cultures & older religions that are displayed as 'public art', but allowing or aiding through inaction the systematic discrmination of judeo-christian symbols. Even the americans that are not christians should rue the losing of free speech by one chosing professing their faith, or not professing if one chooses.
The 2nd admendent garauntees the rest.

I agree, but its more than just California folks, the whole country is getting a little wacky. Remember that place in the south that had to remove the 10 commandments monument or somethin. And the fuss about pledge of allegiance, in god we trust, political correctness, (we certainly dont want to offend anyone), a vet that wasnt allowed to fly the flag in front of his place cus it was "offensive?", yada yada yada. Get the idea? Crazy!
