Just joined NAXJA and the forums here so I presume it's appropriate to introduce oneself. I live in Awahtukee, close to South Mountain. I'm originally from England but I've lived in Arizona for ~13 years.
I don't own an XJ yet, but I'm on the lookout for the right vehicle. My motivation for a XJ is it's practicality as a daily driver, relative ease of modification, an offroad/trail rig, hauler for camping and bike gear, etc. I want to get something my 8 yr old son and I can use to stay connected and also to break the TV/PlayStation cycle with him before it sucks him in for life.
I'm looking to end up with a pretty stock 4WD 4.0 I6 XJ, with a quality 3.5"-4" lift and 31" tyres, later maybe a winch and air system for tools, airing up the tyres and lockers. If the right vehicle shows up and it's totally stock I'm pretty handy and able to add the lift, tyres and other stuff myself.
I'm hoping I can find a vehicle and get suitably comfortable with it's reliability so the boy and I can make inaugural run.

I agree with BigAzXJ, it is a VICIOUS spiral downward. Once I started I have NEVER stopped. LOL
Welcome aboard though. If you dont have a rig, maybe we can find you a seat for a ride along. Then you can get a taste of how calm and soothing we are. LOL

Thanks fellas ...
Based on previous projects that's exactly how it'll go. I never know when to leave well enough alone. I'll try and move slow, I am a ton to learn about wheeling and four wheel drives.
I guess what I'm looking for, ideally, is a 2 door 96-99 model with 4WD, auto trans, 4.0L. Failing that a 91-99 will also work. The boy likes the 2 door and he's the boss but I think he'd not be too broken up to ride in a 4 door ... :)

Hey guys! This looks like a great place for some good info. I recognize a few of you from the AZVJC.
I'm from Mesa and usually drive a TJ but lately I've been building up my son's 92 XJ while he's overseas in Iraq. The AZVJC guys probably know who I am now.;)
So far I've put a 6.5" Rockkrawler suspension, Currie Dana 44 w/Detroit locker, SYE, ARB front bumper, Custom 4X4 rear bumper/tire carrier, and 35" BFG MT's. I trimmed the front fenders and they came out pretty good but I'm currently trimming the rear and they aren't looking as good. I'll probably put some after market flares on to hide the imperfections.:eeks1:
Hope to make the FJ run on the 20th with you all!
