View Full Version : Arizona Chapter LOGO??

Well, I'm not skilled in web graphics or any of that type of stuff. I turn wrenches for a living but I've been playing around and put a few examples together.
I know their not the quality an experienced individual could put together. I'm hoping someone with more talent than me (which wouldn't take much:wow: ), steps up and revamps these or comes up with one of their own.
Hoping to be an official chapter soon and would like to move forward on the availability of mugs, t'shirts etc to raise some funds for the chapter.

I just saw this thread so I posted this here too. Sorry for the duplication.
I saw this AVATAR when surfing the BBS. I don't know if it was designed by JEEPZZ or he/she just found it somewhere. I think it would be fun to use in our logo/stickers. Any thoughts???

Ok, well I just whipped this up - I know its probably not exactly what were looking for (probably a little bit smaller/simpler if we are putting this on T-Shirts/Mugs) but I am comfortable using Photoshop and stuff. I'll make some other attempts but I just wanted to see if anyone likes this approach. The cartoonish looking approach that Sandys got up is also always a really cool way to go with graphics imo.
edit: just read in other post that brians got a friend thats into graphics. im an idiot :) anyways, this could make an ok T-shirt with some changes i suppose. (put jeep inside a border - AZ state shaped border and relocate the NAXJA Arizona Chapter text or something)

I was hoping my feeble attempt at a logo would bring out more talented than myself. Thanks for those working on a logo for our soon to be chapter (I HOPE :sunshine: )!!
Commando, you must have had one excellent specimen XJ to use when working on your logo!:shhh: Looks good.
Grapeape XJ, looking good to me!
I know Brian also has something in the works with a friend. I guess the best way to do it will be to get some examples put together and then we will put it to the vote.
I like the picture Sandy posted up but don't know if we can find a larger version of it.
Something to keep in mind is that the more colors involved, the more it costs for t'shirts etc. I think the S.E. Chapter just had a situation like that.
Have fun and let's see what else pops up!!

CommandoXJ, nobody is gonna hurt my feelings with ideas and willingness to help. Thats why I suggested that we get all samples together and put them to a vote. Jim is right though, we probably want to stick to 2 or 3 colors to avoid high costs in reproduction of things. Once all this is done though, I have some business connections online that have made some business shirts and stuff for me at a good price in the past.
LETS ROCK!!!

Just a hint from a guy who has had to deal with Tshirt and sticker orders more times then I would like to.
Keep the colors to 5-6 or less. Its much much cheaper to get work done this way.
Also the cleaner the art the better it looks on stickers and shirts and stuff.

I sure do like incorporating the state outline in the logo, but not so sure on the writing on the windshield. I am thinking that the round logo with this design in it with WWW.NAXJA.ORG (http://www.NAXJA.ORG) and then ARIZONA CHAPTOR along the bottom would really pop-out. but I am not much of a designer myself, so what do I know??

added in Naxja.org. (in both above posted pics and these)
none of the other chapter logos i saw had www in it and i thought i could squeeze in bigger text without it so I left it out.
also for Rock Runner; heres a slight rearrangement without any windshield text - I tried to make the Arizona chapter piece stick out more. I'm more partial to the windshield text but thats just me.

Then put the URL across the bumper.

well I do like the bumper suggestion. Might be a little smaller then everyone would like but here it is. I think this may be the last attempt for this evening.
Maybe mixing and matching the text from the different ones would work out. I think I might like the big NAXJA logo and big AZ Chapter text along with the Small bumper URL text. (but I'll save that untill after I hear feedback on this version at least)

I like the dark naxja.org without the www crap. It blends in well. NAXJA should maybe be bold, italic, red, capped Tahoma fonts. I read that somewhere. However I really like the nice straight stick font you used. Arizona chapter looks good all by itself.

You da man, Commando. Excellent work.
I like the color one in post 16 the best except for the writing on the windshield. Can you see how it looks with "NAXJA" in the top center of the red and yellow field (above the star), and put "Arizona" and "Chapter" on either side of the star in the red/yellow field. Leave the rest as is.
My .02
Also, I’m dumb in these things, would 3 shades of gray be considered one color (gray), or would the charge be for 3 colors (light gray, gray, and dark gray)?

These renditions are excellent and I'm impressed with the work!
There are a couple of things to consider.
I been advised that 5 to 6 colors is the maximum we can realistically have in the logo if we intend to print t'shirts, mugs etc. After speaking with a couple of folks, different shades of gray are considered a different color. As much as I like the logo's that commando has been working on, I think they exceed that number.
Brian (Azrockrunner) stopped by the house last night. He had a friend with him who happens to be a graphics designer (Mike). Mike has agreed to put a couple of things together for us to look at and when those are completed we'll post them everything up in a thread and put it to the vote.
Everyones help is greatly appreciated. We're just getting rolling but we're off to an awesome start!:patriot:

I like the round sticker better than the windshield sticker idea. We can place a round sticker in many different places. A quality made windshield sticker is cut to match the curve of the window. If made to conform to the front windshield we are limited to putting the sticker there. If we were to put it somewhere else that is flat the sticker would show a goofy curve. Some XJ/MJ's may have different windshield curvature also making it more costly to make several different stickers to match different vehicles. Lets keep it simple and make it round, square, triangle, heck even a trapezoid that we can place anywhere on our rigs...
Darker colors would be ok but not needed.

We have to have the web site in the logo somewhere and I think across the windshile d is a good location in the logo.

Perfect! I also like the darkening the colours idea.
Having tinkered a bit with colours they never do look exactly the same once printed as they did on the computer screen. If we have the option, when printing time comes, it would be a good idea to have a small batch, say 10, made and spread them around for comments on the colours before having 100's made.

the "fugly bumper" is drawn accurately and is based off of (from what I can tell) Jims XJ. He does run those lights on his rack; and I also run lights on my rack. Its not a bad lookin XJ in the logo imho - but thats just one opinion.

K.I.S.S. an effective logo should be simple so it can be understood and read from a long way off. to much extra parts looses the effectiveness of the logo
closer to a stock appearance will be more easlily understood by those "not in the know"

You’re thinking of a 5-point ball-tip star badge that is a very different badge. The star goes all the way out to the edges where the balls are connected and no circle. This is a 5-point circle-star badge. I used to collect old west badges. The circle star was originally adopted for texas but is used in many agencies.
The star points do need to be thicker where they connect to the circle with small fillet radii. My model would be too thin there to punch out of a single piece of metal as badges were made and still hold together.
I like to omit the www on a url and I think it makes sense not to include “chapter” but that could go either way. I didn’t want it to look too law enforcement looking either.
If someone wants to work on this then run with it. I’m just an observer. http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif
edit: changed the star in my image.
very nice! put little circles at the end of each star point and it would be a great rendition of a old west sheriffs badge.

Thats alright, ours turned out similar to the Socal design. But I can assure you I didn't copy theirs in any manner. Only so many ways to flex up an XJ......................:laugh3:
I noticed after the fact that we both had little "tube" bumpers on the back. Wished at that point that I could have removed it, but the logos were already made up. What can ya do...............:dunno:

What's the status on the logo???
Logo #2 won the official poll vote but not by a huge margin. This raised the question of reworking the winning logo to incorporate some of the artwork and suggestions that came in after the poll opened.
A revised version is in the works that hopefully will be more in tune with what everyone wants. We have to live with our logo for a long time so we hope to get it right the first time.
As soon as the designer gets the rework done we'll post it up for a look! :patriot:
