When I try and play a DVD in my old laptop I get a message stating that I can't play the DVD b/c I don't have a dvd decoder. What is this and can I just download one? Thanks.

How are you trying to play a DVD thought windows media player? If so that will not work.

I use PowerDVD it is program that came with my DVD burner I use it all the time to watch movies on my laptop.

There are tons of them outhere you have to pay for some. I know when I played Little Nicky on my laptop that the movie came with a player I think it is called winDVD.

goto download.com and search for one or google it.

I thought it would work through the media player. Thanks for the help. I just found a free download from that site you gave. I appreciate it.

You can play DVD's, DivX and pretty much ANY video file through MP. You just need the right codecs. Most DVD player software files already have the necessary codecs installed.

Well for us computer geeks that is not hard to do at all.

I thought that it would be easier for him to just download a player.
