Just curious if anyone had a local shop or guy who does gear installs. So far I've talked to coast driveline and 4wp and have been quoted around $1500 from both! I got it done in my Mustang for $300 but that guy only will do Fords. If anyone has a place to reccomend let me know, otherwise I'll keep waiting for some junkyard 4cyl axles.

I've had some work done by this guy. He seems to know what he's doing if you can get him to follow through. He is very hard to get ahold of over the phone, and he has variable hours. With the work he has done for me and a couple of friends, there have been no significant problems with the work. Make sure you get a quote in writing! He likes to change the prices on you half way through the job. Also be ready to wait longer than promised for your truck to be ready. He is usually late, the only two times I had appointments with him he was more than 30 minutes late to open the shop. Same goes for two friends that used him.

He is a nice guy, he just has a different work ethic than most.

why would you even consider calling 4 wheel parts?

BTW i would not gear it until you are ready to go with bigger tires.

Fill your tank up and drive on down the 5 to ryan browns.

Best prices, done right in front of you he has great deals on parts and he has never had a gear install go bad.

One time I blew up my front d30 gears beacause I did something dumb and knowing that he still replaced them for free!

Its worth the drive and its fun watching him!

Best prices around as well......so its worth the drive.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Why should I wait for bigger tires? I've got a 5spd, so that means 3.07's. 5th gear is useless right now, if I had 3.55's I might wait longer. I plan on going to 4.10's

The prices I was quoted incuded gears, install kits, new carrier for the front, and labor. Sounds incredibly high to me.

I used to work at Conejo Off Road a few years back, but they're a 4WP now, thats part of the reason I called them, I know back when I worked there we didn't charge anywhere near that much to do gears.

If your going to spend the $$$ to do gears, whic is a lot your not going to want to shell it out again when you go bigger.....

Go with 4.56s so you can run 33s.... Its doable with the 5 speed and 31s as well

That way your only shelling out that cash for gears once. Because you will want more than 31s, it happens to everyone.

Have you talked to ryan brown yet?

His price is about as low as your going to get.

He usualy charges just $300 for labor.

The rest is parts, gears and install kits will run you about 5-600 and new carriers are 50-75.

That's as cheap and as real as it gets.

There are a set of 4.10 geared axles in the ecology yard here in oceanside though........
