Trying to do it myself. Search no help.

My 93 2wd has a vibration past 55. I have found the problem and it seems to be my driveshaft. The yolk as it enters the transmission is leaking AND there is a lot of play in the front U-joints. When I pulled on the driveshaft I could see the yoke moving in the housing. Jeep specialist wants $289 to "rebuild". He said I couldn't do it myself. It would be really nice (cheap) to prove him wrong. Need your help for this.

you can do it, it's just sort of a pain. a good parts store should be able to get you the centering assembly and universal joints needed. i went to the driveline shop and the dude took a look at me (i'm really nerdy looking) and said, "do you know what you're getting yourself into?" and tried telling me i couldn't do it. he was mad when i gave him the part number i needed for the centering assembly.

That's hilarious. I try to do most things myself. Part #'s are gold. I don't know if my yoke is chewed up from the vibes or if I just need a seal. The guy I spoke with mentioned a "bushing". What was he talking about? Thanks for quick reply.

The bushing is inside the tail stock of the trans. When people lift their rigs (or lower) the shaft comes farther out that designed for and the slipyoke starts playing crack the whip and chews up the output bushing and seal of the trans. Installing the bushing is the hard part, but if you can find someone with a used tailstock, you can have it rebushed with a new seal, then just change the tailstock while the driveshaft is out. (read up on it as I haven't done an AX-15, but my BA 10/5 2wd took 1/2 an hour to swap)
