I know you have to flip the dana 300. What else needs to be done? Do you need a cross member to hold the extra weight?

You will need a custom Xmember, the D300 is shorter than the 231/242. You will also need to have a linkage flip kit, or make your own. Also the vents and plugs need to be attended to. The spline input might be different, I havent looked into that part yet.

Spendy, but you can make your own linkage.

Possibly may need a clocking ring.

Heres a good read.

I flipped one behind a box4rocks doubler. the dana 300 has a 23 spline input, you might have a 21 or 23 depending on your rig.

I know about the 23 spline. My tranny might be 21 spline, but if I have to I will change it out. The dana 300 I'm looking at is already fliped, twin sticked, and rebuilt. Give some info on my XJ. 1988, 4dr, 4.0l, AW4 auto, Np242, rear locked D44, front open D30, 4.10 gears, 5.5" lift, TnT long arm kit, 33" Truxus.

ok.. so if he had a 23 spline input on his tranny... what's the advantages to the D300?

just curious b/c there's one 4-sale locally here that has been flipped, rebuilt, and twin sticked....

Stronger, shorter. But it weighs more, IIRC, and the low range is 2.62:1. A 4.0:1 kit would fix that.
