I wouldn't shave it. The bottom oil sump is mighty thin right there.
But doing something like that code 4x4 guy did is a great idea if you have the tools and the talent.

You could cut it like he did relatively easily. It's just welding a cast nodular iron housing to mild plate that's hard for most people.
I'd have done it if I kept my 8.8.
