rear axle play

HI,

is it normal to have play on rear axle? wheel bearings are ok ! but if i pull the wheel it moves out about a quater inch , both sides iv'e been told this is normal on cherokee, ?.......thanx

I believe that if you have a c-clip axle, then yes, but without knowing what your axle is, there is no way of knowing.

Your profile says 1997, which would be a c-clip axle. The end-play is normal, but usually it's more like 1/8".

think iv'e found it .. dana 35c and 35 used on my year 8.25 ten bolt axle , c-clip type used on none ABS. my car is none abs 1997....

its like a real thick washer in the shape of a "c" that holds your axle inside the carrier. no big deal really. a few people have had the c clip fall out or work its way out and then have their axle walk out of the housing which probably made their day a bit harder than normal.
