My wife and and I were just watching the News on Channel5/30 and they announced the death of a soldier from Ft Carson. The said his name was Seth and he was 19 years old and a graduate of Coronado High School. They went on to describe this young mans hobbies and showed his XJ... It was this one....
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showpost.php?p=946213&postcount=34

I fear that we have lost a member to the war in Iraq.

Someone has to know Seth' family.

Please tell I'm wrong!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the soldier, even if it isn't the same guy. I fear it may be since his XJ was quite unique, and he was in the thick of things. He posted some pictures of some things he was doing over there in this post he started before he even left: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=101589

Hopefully we get a solid confirmation, but if they showed that jeep on the news, most likely the news got that picture directly from the family, and that it may infact be the same guy. I pray for his family the strength to carry on through the holidays without their loved one.

I finally got through to someone at KOAA. The name of the soldier killed was Seth Staton. Hopefully someone on the B.o.D. with access to members real names can confirm this for us.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Seth's family and friends.

I think that we as a group need to do something. Whether it's attending the funeral, or a memorial of some type. He was one of us, and that should mean something.

Yah, it's don't look good. Checked the DoD site and there are 7 without updates as of this moment. http://icasualties.org/oif/BY_DOD.aspx but they may be slow on updates being a weekend and night.

Bad time of the year for a Family to loose someone, my heart goes out to them ...

Unless I miss the mark, either the National or the Chapter will provide a memorial of some flavor. It is the customary and right thing to do.

Becky and my prayers are with Seth and his family. If it is him or not. I remember when I was in the Army during Desert Storm. It was more stressful for my family than myself, especially for my mom not knowing if or when her son was leaving and when and/or if I was coming back. I pray to God that it is not Seth. We have lost many in Iraq that are fighting for the Freedom of America and for better lives for the Iraqies. People like Seth, who are willing to give their lives so I can live in a peaceful country, are truely heroes to me. May God bless Seth and his family. If it is Seth, he is in a better place.

May God be with you,

Tom and Becky

I just heard on the radio that it was Seth Staton

Dang. That sucks.

Something fitting that would show support and not get in the way of his family at this difficult time. Round up all the XJ owners in the area you can get. Park lined up in an orderly fashion, lights on near the cemetary where the procession will pass. I believe this would show support without getting in the way. I'm sure the funeral will be big and the military will run the show. -As they should.

This is unbelieveable. He was so excited about joining NAXJA and getting involved.

My first contact with Seth was thru PM's with him asking about membership information, then he wanted to get involved with a clean-up of a popular off roading area in the 'Springs.

He will be missed eventhough not many of us got to meet him face-to-face.

Justin, Jeff and I will definitely be looking to do whatever we can for Seth's family on behalf of the Colorado Chapter.

If that Phelps crew makes the slightest hint of organizing a protest, I will be there to do what I can to make their effort as difficult as possible.

I would definately do some leg work and find out who the Casualty Assistance Officer is, the military rep coordinating his case with his family. That way the contact can remain professional and he/she can coordinate it so nothing is inappropriate or untimely.
Having to go to a friend's house and inform the wife/mother/family is extremely difficult and touch and go for several days. Anything that reminds them of Seth may trigger some really bad reactions.

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. We disagreed on a thread, but respectfully. His words meant more because he was putting his money where his mouth was. I've been keeping track of him when he shipped off and wished him well. It was good to see his update recently with his pics. But now, the reality of war...

I would like to help in some way. I have a bad habit of bad timing though. If NAXJA does anything official count me in. I would be happy to give labor, money, or presence. Keep us updated, and maybe we can get a list going. His family might not have a clue who we are, but I'm sure they knew he loved his XJ. Maybe an official NAXJA letter with names of those that show support and flowers sent to the funeral??? It's the right thing to do something. God Bless our troops, and Seth's family.

A Colorado 4x4.org member (Sound_Man - Curt) asked me to post this info. He works at Ft. Carson and got this info from the PAO:

There will be a formal military memorial service at Ft Hood. If there is a service in the Springs it will be one that is set up by his parents. I have been trying to find out if there will be a funeral here (in the Springs) or if it will be at Arlington or one of the other military cemetery's but I have not had any luck with that yet.

I will post back if I get more info.

I never met Seth, as I have actually met few of you all face to face, yet somehow I am more troubled by Seth's death than I typically have been by the frequent casuallties in Iraq and Afganistan, although each seems to strike home in its own way. Thanks to all of you who have served, and continue to. And thanks to all of you here who have the knowledge to do the legwork and figure out the best way we can share our grief, and celebrate Seth's life. If there are indeed some CS services, I for one plan to attend, whether as an anonymous "friend" or with a group from here....

Wow...my home PC crapped out and works been really crazy lately so I haven't been around much. This was the first thing I heard this morning. Pretty sh!tty to say the least. I was recently talking with him via PM. I have seen his XJ in Woodland Park on several occasions. After talking with him...it turns out that I've met his Grandad before. Seth was up here quite often visiting his Grandparents. His Grandad is a business owner here in town. Seth had a ton of pride in his XJ and I definitely think it would be appropriate for us to do something organized to celebrate his life.

Goodbye Seth. Thanks for your service.

I saw this post this morning when there were only two pages of replies, couldn't reply until now and we're up to 5 pages now! This is a wonderful sign of respect and concern for Seth and those he has had to leave behind.

I offer my own condolences to Seth's family and his friends. I have friends in Arvada who lost their Son in Iraq and I know first hand how Seth's family is being effected and my heart breaks for them.

Each night before putting our children to bed we have family prayer and we include our soldiers nightly in our prayers. We are grateful for our freedom and for the sacrifices of every soldier who has taken their turn standing post for us all.

When the decision is made to have the NAXJA stickers printed, I'll put my order in.

If work allows, I will be in the Springs as well!

Perhaps we could do a commemorative t-shirt?

Let's keep our other Chapter soldiers in our thoughts as well.

What upgrades, specific ones, would you reccomend? I have ideas, but I don't know specific companies and specific parts, all of the parts I should say, that I need for this.

As for Axles I'm open to anything from D44's to D60's to Ford 9 Inchs.

Thanks for taking care of this guys, I'll just be patient. I am happy to show my support, but we definitly only need one person handling this. I'm sure his family is overwhelmed. My wife is 38 and she has a 19 year old son. I couldn't even imagine what a knock on the door would be like.

I can't stop thinking about this.

R.I.P.I think there are many here that are in the same situation, myself included. Perhaps after Seth's family has made final arrangements and a proper tribute can be made we'll feel a bit differently....maybe.

From what little we know Seth went out on top, in a lot of ways. His family loved him deeply, his friends were there when he needed them. He made an impact on people and he stood for something when many his age sit and watch from the sidelines.

As much as we feel the need to mourn his passing, we should also celebrate his life.

wow, way too young...

"
On Monday, family members gathered at the home where he grew up. A small, white candle and pink flowers sat on a ledge in the front yard. His Jeep Cherokee, outfitted with oversized tires, camo paint and a roll bar, sat in the backyard.

True this not a political arena. I am a NAM vet and he was and always will be my brother and comrade in arms. I know what the famliy is going through now i lost many friends in NAM and i know the way i feel now about this wierd war. Being military we know what the price is for what most take for granted.

I was browsing over on CO4x4 and came across this thread (that I know many have already seen). The pic struck me as being rather ironic. Planefixer and maybe even Idiot Wind might be able to tell why.

See that house in the background? Look familiar? There's not many up here that are cedar sided AND have that shotty deck design where the balisters are the support of the deck rail instead of a 4x4 post and painted that turd shade of brown.

I can't believe this. He was only nineteen, my age. I'm literally shaking right now. That's too young.

Seth, I can't even imagine doing what you did. You have my highest respect for stepping up and volunteering to fight for what you believed in. I'm no advocate of war, but I have nothing but respect and admiration for those who give themselves and volunteer to protect the country and the way of life that they love. You were one of them. By your age, I'm guessing that you volunteered during wartime. That takes a special sort of courage, to volunteer knowing that you'll soon be shipped overseas into combat, and for that bravery I commend you. Nothing but respect for you, Seth. Rest in peace.

No offense taken at all. OOOOORRRRAH and Haze Gray and Underway. All military are in my prayers. And my heart goes out to the family. If anyone has contact with them i belong to the DAV ( Disabled American Vetrans) check with the local chapter they have many services for the famlies that are of no cost plus they may be able to help with other matters as well.

RIP Brother, wish I could be at the funeral to show my respect.

As for the Westboro morons, if present, block them from the familys view. Phelps and his crew showed up at a local Soldiers funeral, but were blocked by myself and many members of the Patriot Guard and Indiana Rolling Thunder.

My heart and prayers go out to Soldier Seth, I cannot begin to imagine how deeply this must hurt them.

The minute a man puts on a military uniform he's a soldier, the minute the man becomes a soldier he is my hero.

God bless all the young and old that have served and are serving in my country's armed forces to protect my family and myself.
