I jsut put a new waterpump in a buddies Xj (1990 4.0) and soon after when we went to start it, the engine would start run fine for a few seconds and then die. The air tube from the airbox to the top of the valve cover got broken but we did a quikc garage fix, but Im not sure if this is the problem or if there is another problem. Could it be something to do with belt tension or something else small that we are looking over?

TIA...

Check to see if the fuel pump ballast resistor got disconnected. It should be up somewhere on the driver's side inner fender, a rectangular white ceramic thing. If it isn't obviously disconnected, try simply bypassing it and see if that's the problem. It won't hurt to run with it bypassed.
