I'm going to do Chinaman's Thursday. I was wanting to give the hard left line on the waterfall a shot. I watched Digger go up it and he made it look easy. Maybe it isn't. I've also seen others on their side in the crack. Not cool. Any words of wisdom? Will 33s and 4.5" clear, or will I scrape? My sig below is what I got. I wouldn't want to loose traction half way up. Thanks for any input.

It can be done on 33s but I would reccommend a good spotter. Here's me on 33s and rear locker only- Led spotting.

I do think it's doable from a couple different angles but the easiest is certainly right up the gut of the crack (middle). The middle of the bumper goes in the middle of the crack and the front tires climb at the same time. If ligned up correctly the rear tires will climb at the same time as well.
Slow climb is in order but traction and momentum are key here. If you start to slide off to the side you'll likely be out of position and bad things could happen.
Look really closely at this picture as he's ligned up exactly the way I'd spot you through if I were there with you. Many think you need to go off to the left of the V but I think you'll have better luck going just has he did.

Cool. I knew you did it. Actually I was going to give you a call. I'm going w/ a friend that has a lot of experience, but he won't do it in his CJ. He has tiny wheel base.

Thanks. I thought Digger was on 33s but didn't know if he is locked up front. I was only concerned a bit on one pic he looked close to dragging his rocker. Plane's pic took care of that worry for me. That is about the same line as I saw, but maybe a bit to the right like you say. I'll have to see what condition the trail is in, but I think I will give it a go. I'll try not to be scared!

.....a good spotter.....Led spotting.

I've walked it before and I've also been denied. Having a rock or two at the bottom to keep you from digging in the sand/mud is very helpful. There is a lot of weight on the back tires when you're trying to climb it.

Actually, Don's on 32's and ARB up front but I'm pretty sure it wasn'y installed when you saw him.

Well I was denied. I stacked up, but couldn't get it. Recent rains had washed a lot of sand down. I had to stack rocks on my pass side for my bumper to clear. My driver rear just dug into the sand. My driver front would spin and pull me to the left. I tried to be very easy on the gas, but to no avail. Oh ya, I was also scared! If I had seen some one else do it, or had a fellow XJer spot me maybe I would have tried harder. So here it is

Here is another one. I was right where I wanted to be. Even with some brake, I couldn't get the front Trutrac to bite.

Later at the V-notch, I was looking for revenge. It dented my door the last time. I was going to stay high right and own it. My rear diff still got caught and sent me sideways. It was slow, I wasn't worried. After the pic I drove right out. My friend said that he has never seen anyone in that position there, so I had to get a shot!

It was a good day of wheeling. I want to give it another shot next time.

It gets pretty freaky when all you see is sky in your windshield. At least you gave it a shot.
I had to winch JJacobs out of the v-notch because he managed to get his MJ completely sideways in there. :twak: :D
