i traced my no start problem to the starter. after replacing the battery and cables (all needed to be replaced anyways) i still had no crank. so i though WTF. i desided to smack the starter and try again. it worked!!
so that narrows it down to the starter.
looking for one that i can pay for after i get paid Dec 22. preferably a cheap one.
needs to be compatable with 95 4.0.
thanks

That is the way my starter works in Moab.
Work great any other time, it just has problems in Moab. :dunno:

I think I've got a used one here in Tucson but probably cost as much to ship it as a new one would cost.

AMC242 starters are the same from 1987 to 1999 or so - just so you know. They went to a gear reduction unit around 1999 - it fits, but it costs a bit more (and probably does work better...)

Just the sort of factoid I keep around. I'm working on Swappology at the moment, but I have no idea when I'll have a version ready for publication... Hell, I haven't even written my "information" page for it just yet, and I am soliciting comments, if anyone has any...

My wife happened to have a flat rate box here at the house. It does fit and is packaged up ready to go. PM me your address.
Not sure what it costs to send a flat rate box.
It's used, dirty, out of a 94 XJ. It worked fine when it came out, I thought it was a starter problem but it was something else.
Must be worth $50,000 or so. :laugh3: Got anything to trade? I need a couple of used extended brake lines for spares on the trail. If not send me your address anyhow and I'll do my best to get it out tomorrow.

A little less than $10 - I use them all the time.

i apreciate it. im gonna get it tested hopefully soon just to be sure that its not the silinoid before we go through all the trouble.
i dont have any extended brake lines. all i got are the used stock ones. if you need them, they are yours.

Haven't heard back so I figure you got your situation rectified.
Decided I'm going to keep this used starter for "on the trail repair"
