Bad Steering Stabilizer?

1989 XJ, 2" budget boost, LT235/75 tires. Daily Driver + Trail Rig.

I have a replacement Gabriel Steering Stabilizer that I think is bad. How can I be sure without taking it off?

what do you think is bad about it?
I think if you jacked the front so tires are off ground, turned your steering wheel to one side and waited to see if the stabilizer pushed it back, and did the same for the other side it would show you if it was busted or not (like old shocks will sometimes just push out instead of stay neutral)
Other than that I am not sure what you could do? But someone else on here will probably pipe in.
