I have been searching and it seems pretty conclusive but I want a second opinion to confirm things. my XJ stutters and backfires through the exhaust but only at one specific position in the throttle, rpms don't affect it only throttle position, it's about 3/4 in. into the throttle, a little before and it's ok and past it it's ok, but right in that one spot, (which is my preffered spot when cruising down the interstate) it stutters, bucks, and pops through the exhaust, I suspect the tps, but I put another one on it, a used but supposedly good unit I picked up at a local yard and it does the same thing, and even when I unhook the tps it still does it, is there something else that is throttle position dependant that I am missing??
