i went through one of my mud holes behind my house after a hard rain. it didnt look much deeper than normal, but when i started going into it i saw my headlight go under water. i cut off the engine about the same time that the water got to it. by the time i came to a stop my front end was out of the water and only the rear half of my vehicle was still submerged. it sat like this until a day or two later when i towed it back up my trail to my garage.

i disconnected the spark plug wires, took out the plugs, turned the engine over, poured a little seafoam in there, turned it over, cleaned the plugs, she cranked, ran like shit for a min, then did okay.

the next day i made it to work, about an hour away... on the way home it started acting like it didnt have constant gas feed, it was cutting out and wouldnt accelerate well. i came home, took the plugs back out, poured a tiny amt of oil in the cylinders, turned it over, cleaned plugs, replaced. it sounds like it's running better but im still having the same problem. i read the check engine light that just came on and its showing cylinder 1 & 3 misfiring and an random misfire error.

i took off the cap & rotor, blew it all out with an air hose, etc....did the same to the plug wires.

what now???:bawl:

my buddy's truck that is carbed went through some deep mud and died.when we pulled the air cleaner off it had gotten a crapload of mud in the filter.changed that and it ran alittle better, then we found some mud had gone into the carb.he got a new one and it still ran like crap.ended up pulling apart the engine to find trashed rings in 2 cylinders(4 banger) and a cracked valve.mud don't forgive as easy as water sometimes will!

water in fuel will do it. how far under was your rear end? Run the tank of gas and see if problem continues.

actually i'm really suprised water didnt come into my rear hatch. the tank has since been replaced though.... it had a hole in it anyway. do the tanks have to be completely sealed? my vent line is loose and could be keeping the tank from holding pressure. could that be it as well?

Have you tried unplugging/replugging the CPS connection? You might also see if if mud or water contaminated the CPS magnet.

You have water in your distributor cap. Pull it off and spray a little wd-40 in there and clean it up with a paper towel or rag.

im going to try some stuff tomorrow. as far as the no accelration after a while.....it drives fine at first..... could that be from a fuel system not being sealed? like i said, my fuel filler hose has a hole in it.
