November 29th, 2006, 22:22
I'll be running Cleghorn with my brother this Saturday. Everyone is Welcome. (Everyone with a Jeep that is)

Meeting Time - 9:00 am
Place - Cleghorn Entrance off the 15 Freeway.
Difficulty - Easy to Moderately Difficult with MANY bypasses on the fire road. Last time, couple of stock XJ's made most of the run with good spotting.

I'll be taping it for a Jeep Off-Roading DVD that I'm putting together for retail sale. So, if you come and don't want to be taped, just let me know ahead of time.

Thanks,
Elias

This sounds like a great time to break in the wife's TJ. But, her sister is in town this weekend. I will talk with my wife to see if she wants to go. If so, we will bring the TJ and the XJ.....

Cool to see all the interest..

Here is a map to Cleghorn.. The trails are on the East side..

http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=Cleghorn&csz=San+Bernardino%2C+CA&country=us&new=1&name=&qty= (http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=Cleghorn&csz=San+Bernardino%2C+CA&country=us&new=1&name=&qty)=

There are no signs indicating that the 15 frwy will be closed this weekend.

It'll just a one day run..

Remember to bring food and drinks (non-alcoholic)

The wives/better-halves do pretty good on this trail..

COOL!!!!!

I really want to make a run this weekend, what time would we be done on saturday?

Monkey55
November 30th, 2006, 19:10
The last couple times I ran it, we finished around 3:30pm.. But, we spent a lot of time stopping for every pebble. I think we could finish sooner if we move it along..

If someone needs to leave sooner, they can always take the fire road back because there are MANY cross-overs with the fire road..

I will be heading up the 15 from Oceanside if anyone wants to convoy up with me. So is it just off the interstate on the Cleghorn exit..and then you all will be gathering right to the east? See you all there.

Well, here's a picture of the Carnage. Note to self, toss one of these in the toolbox. $13.49 for a new one, 40 mile round trip to pick it up including 3-4 of fire road to get to the main road. :( Enjoyed a lovely 3-4 hours of downtime. Good news is that we took all the fireroad bypasses after it was fixed, almost had to pull in the mirrors a couple times, and felt like I was going to flop it. I should ride with someone who has a red xj so I can see where the flopping point is. :)

It was FUN!!!!! I had a great time.. I think everyone else enjoyed the run too... 8 rigs showed up. 6 XJ's, 1 YJ and 1 FSJ. I'll have to get a pic up of my FIRST carnage and my brother's, Manny, carnage..

Damage Report - My rear driver door and rocker panel and woke up to a flat tire, Paul's rear window popped out, Manny's driver's side step thingy on his YJ is thrashed, Mark's idler pully seized up, and David's air line drained his co2 tank. Not too bad..

For some reason, Manny's YJ didn't like to have all four tires on the ground.. Everytime we turned around, one or two tires were up the in the air.. :rof: I couldn't understand why my beast keep creeping up the side walls. You can see that in one of the vids. I see Rock Rails in my future. Andy had to show us up by doing most of the trail in a stock rig. David took a couple of years off his life by doing Pucker Hill (I think all of our hearts stopped a beat when he hit the top of the wall), I think Nathan will now get a compressor or a CB or a jacket or snuggle up to his honey in the cold :D .BRRRRR it was COLD when the sun dropped. I think this run motivated Rick or Rich (sorry, I forgot) to finish up his XJ. He brought his Wagoneer.. Mark will trust his instinct next time he thinks a part needs to be replaced. Paul proably won't be lugging around too many extra tires in the back of his rig any more. That must have been a cold drive home, HomeBrew..

And finally, all of us, Mark first, win the Bone Head Award for the day when we stuck our heads over the engine, while it was running, to get a closer look at the idler pully that was bad.. DOH!!!!! We jumped back pretty quickly when we heard a snapped and saw/heard a piece of metal shoot out. We knew better than that.. :explosion

Fun Times. Next time, we'll have to do it both ways.. Maybe sometime in January..

The last two videos I have.

Watch his face when his trucks wheels fall off the rock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQNmRd2ozPk

And last Three wheel Manny then my SD card filled up

Oh and Manny found the problem with his rig while we were kickin it fixing the pulley. His rear disconnects were hung up and jammed under his springs.

Like I said, the idler felt fine before JV when I had the belt off checking out the water pump. Definately a trail spare part, cheap enough to toss a new one in the toolbox and they're used on all the 4.0's with AC. Yeah, having 4 or 5 of us looking at it wobble while it was running wasn't the brightest thing, especially when it froze. If that was caught on tape it'd been the redneck move of the week, wonder who jumped back the furthest?? :) Lots of fun, regretting not doing the first part where you dented your door, but now that I look back, I walked away with only some scratches from branches, and my passenger side doesn't match my drivers side. :)
