removing rear abs

i have a '96 xj and i am doin a total overhual of the rear brakes and i was wondering how to get the abs sensor through the backing plate there is that hole there w/ the rubber gromet but it doesnt fit,,,, does it come apart or is there something else to it?

Uh, unplug it from the other end and feed it through that way? I removed my sensors the easy way, unplugged them under the seat, fed them through the body and then undid the u-bolts for the axle and chucked the whole D35.
