if you want help, look for it first that way when you ask for it you won't get flamed. this topic is covered rather well if you search for it.
I typed 'seafoam' into the search and got these threads
http://www.naxja.org/forum/search.php?searchid=1282121
I know one will give you info because when I did this search a few months back I used the same words, read the same posts and decided to try it for myself.
To help tho, NAPA carries it.
Search is very helpful, but only when you use it.

I buy it at Autozone for about $8 per can.

I've heard horror stories of this stuff knocking larger chunks of carbon buildup loose and doing damage, any insight on that?

I don't see how you could have that much carbon in the engine. If there was that much carbon then I would bet the engine damage was caused by detonation not the seafoam.

I guess that its a pretty good point that if the engine is that carbon'ed up, then there's probably other issues in the first place.

I love seafoam and stand by it, 100%
On my xj i run 1/3 can in crankcase, 1/3 in gas tank, and 1/3 can thru a vacuum line.
