Speedo Gear Part Numbers Don't work... any other numbers to try?

I have a 1990, 4.56s, 32" tires and the 4.0L with Auto and 242 Tranny. I used the following part number gathered from Go-Jeeps Website "J3212740 - 40 tooth Speedo gear" and the dealers in town all say its no good.

are there and newer updated numbers in a chart somewhere? and if so where can I find them?

I hope so. I am starting to wonder if if the newer 40 teeth gears would work and I just swap the shafts

is that the number for a 1990 for a 40 tooth gear or does it need the 40 tacked onto the back?

That's the whole part number. I also found this when I googled the part number. http://www.moparchat.com/forums/archive/index.php?t-72212.html I believe these are all the long shaft version, but can't confirm.

I would like to update my speedo numbers if I can source an index for them. But those listed here are for Mopar Darts? Dont think they would be the same as what we run in our transfercases?

Numbers I found on another site:
When I swapped mine out I used the part number from Go Jeeps site. I can't remember if the number was "good". I purchased it at the dealership. You may end up doing the shaft swap thing.

Thats the same number from Go-Jeeps, and it doesnt work.

Dealer wont touch it cause they say guys get mad cause they are sell only, no return or refund and if its the wrong one, they get blamed. I need to specify the exact part number

why wont it work?

Then thats their problem. Not willing to sell you a part cause it might be the wrong one, and he doesn't want to get lectured, is bullshit.

I'm a bit confused by the list as well. I looked up some of the long shaft part numbers you have on your site and the ones on the mopar list, using on chrylserpartsdirect.com (down at the moment?). Both cross referenced to the list from the mopar list. I'm still not sure this list is definitive. So whats the difference between the 91-93 and 87-90 long shafts anyway?

and that chrysler direct web page wont work

They seem to be down. Here's another trademotion site that's up. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214497. I looked up a handful of the J* numbers from Marcus's site and they are shown as being superceded by the numbers in the mopar list. I still can't find a good solid way to look up the Chrysler part numbers as the parts sites I'm using don't show application, just a description.
