Axle question

I got lucky a guy i work with is getting me a 1 ton ford 9inch factory 31 spline for free. So what can i do with this. Shortening it costs lots im sure, im thinking about just running 1 tons front and rear when i get out of school. Just trying to see what options i have.

Nothing wrong with a Ford 9" (other than the real low pinion), but it's a 1/2 ton rear end, not a 1 ton.

and depending on what it came out of, it might not need shortening.
