Front clip upgrade

do you have to use 97+ fenders to upgrade a 1990 xj to the 1997+ front clip?
what if you dont are their any big gaps or something?

I think there will be a gap where the fenders and clip meet, at least there was when I tried to put pre-96 fiberglass fenders on my 2000. The 2000 clip is more squared at that point.

Do a search for grille look on page 3 for my user name crazyXj33 I forget what the title is but there is a pic of a MJ with the new clip it looks bada$$.
