Has anyone had any experience returning parts you bought but didn't need to a dealership? I picked up a MAP last week which I thought was going to fix my bogging/stalling problem. Paid somewhere around $140 all told. Well it didn't fix the problem, so my old one is perfectly fine. I have my reciept, box, etc, and wanted to take the new one off and return it. Do they let you return "unused" non broken parts? I don't want to waste my time driving an hour to the dealership if it's not going to work.

Why don't you call the dealership and ask them what their return policy is for parts? You may even be able to find it on-line.

lol Mostly because i just thought of it now after wheeling and they aren't open on sundays. I will have to try for the website, that might have the info.

Chances are you're boned. Many places won't let you returned electrical components unless they're in a sealed package... I know I'd make 'em discount it if I were the next guy coming in getting a used part. :shhh:

As mentioned, call 'em and ask.

Concur. "Most places" meaning parts houses in general.

I've not had to worry about returning parts - partly because I usually manage to isolate the right part, and partly because it's old enough to have wanted replacing anyhow. Nice thing about keeping maintenance logs...

Fortunately this wasn't a sealed electrical part, it was simply in a little cardboard box, so I shouldn't hafta worry about it being sealed. Im driving by in a few days I will probably just stop in and find out.

Alot of times I will buy what I *might* need or if two parts are listed and they don't know which one, very common on 97 wranglers with their mid year redesign, I'll take both with the understanding that the one that I don't use I bring back. Generally as long as it's clean with no smudge marks :D and 'The snap-on modis said my installed one was good' will usually work. The modis is the laptop sized snap-on diagnostics pc that plugs into the jeep. Just tell him you bought it 'just in case you needed it'....

being that i work for a dealership , return policy has alot to do with the attitude of the person doing the return, and of course whether or not we can sell the part again as new,i would suggest you ask for the mgr. plead your case , do not try to scam him , we have heard it all before, just tell the truth ,if he says no then offer to pay a restocking fee, most of your money is better than none ,
